Long delays with rates clearances issued by the City of Cape Town
As you may be aware, Rates Clearances are taking far too long. Is there a problem, our clients are asking?
We don’t know. Currently the period between payment of the seller’s (advance) rates account and the receipt of the formal Rates Clearance Certificate is taking 35 working days, (yes, 6 weeks!) There might be a backlog due to all the public holidays last month, or problems with their systems. Our Attorneys Association is meeting with the City of Cape Town – Rates Department soon to try to address the problem. Hopefully we will then have some feedback on the delays. Please bear with us if this issue is delaying your transfer.
