Caldwell Library celebrates summer with programs for all ages. For a preview, download the  Children's and Adult calendars. It's a great time to borrow our free Museum Passes, or download magazines and audiobooks for vacation. Be among the first to try our new OneClickDigital ebooks.  Stop in to see the summer watercolor exhibit by Marge Samuels' students and join us for a July 15 reception.

This year, we are offering Summer Reading prize programs for children, teens and adults through August. For students, we've created  Summer Reading List sections in the children's room and upstairs for teens. We have the school lists and can help you find these books.


Sphero Ball for Teens July 1,15, & 29, 4-5pm  Sphero is the robotic ball you control with a smartphone , with apps and games to direct its movement. It's fun either solo or on teams. No registration required and training provided.

Summer Storytimes and Science Camp  Monday and Friday mornings at 10am, we offer stories and songs for 3 and under, with preschool storytime on Thursday at 10am. For elementary school grades, Ms. Khost is leading a Science Camp August 4-8 from 10am-noon.

Science & Art Make-Its July 2,16 & 30 4-5pm Learn how to create with origami, tangrams and looms. Create and fly Gliders on July 22 4-5pm. For ages 5+ with no registration needed.

Family Science Try-Its  Wednesdays 6:30-730pm July 2-August 13. We explore a new science topic each week with demonstrations and take home experiments to try. No registration needed.

Adobe Lightroom Workshops, July 10, 17 and 24, 6:30-7:30pm Essex Photo Club presents a free photography course on Adobe Lightroom software. Attendees must attend all sessions and bring a laptop or tablet with Lightroom installed. Registration required.

Friday Family Movies , July 11 and 25 1:00-2:30pm
Free popcorn and no registration  details. 

Discover River Riffles, July 17, 6:45-7:45pm Essex County Environmental Center will talk about the tiny creatures that live in river riffles. Children will see and and make a riffle-loving insect to take home. Registration required.


Spa Night, July 22, 6:30-7:30pm Teens and adults are invited to come relax and create homemade organic beauty products to pamper yourself. Learn how to make lip balm and facial scrubs to take home. Registration required.
 

Robotics for Teens
July 8, 6-8pm  

David Peins of Robodyssey Systems leads a hands-on robotics workshop for teens ages 12-18. Teens will learn how to program University Grade robots using Microsoft Visual Basic. The final workshop challenge will be a non-destructive robot competition. Registration required.
 

Summer Music Series
Women Who Rock!

Wednesdays 6:30-7:30pm 
July 9 Deena  Deena Shoshkes was co-founder of The Cucumbers, a leading 80s indie pop band. Her songs have been featured in films and TV.
July 16 Monica Passin  is a triple-threat, a chanteuse who rocks and writes great songs .
July 23 Max Alstrom  plays keyboard with vocals and has toured with music legends like Count Basie

Butterfly Rick
July 29, 6:45-7:45pm

Rick Mikula, noted author and butterfly expert, brings live butterflies to demonstrate how butterflies can be cared for. Butterfly Rick will demonstrate how to make insect traps using recycled  items. Open to children and their families but registration in required.
