Tufts Office of Sustainability newsletter, Vol. 4 No. 14
Dear Friend,

Hello everyone!  I am excited to be joining the Office of Sustainability and to be providing y’all with up-to-date information through our newsletter.  I am also equally excited to be escaping a hot, Texas summer for one in Boston filled with great farmers’ markets and sustainable fun!

BYOP at the President's PicnicThe President's Picnic this year was once again a Zero Waste Event!  Departments with 5 or more people who Brought Your Own Placesetting (BYOP) were eligible to win plants and pitchers.  Having a BYOP event is a very effective way to reduce waste and to be sustainable, keep that in mind as you plan your summer BBQ or party!

It is time to start signing up for fall CSAsWorld PEAS is offering a fall/harvest share that delivers weekly from early September to late October.  Enterprise Farm has a "year-round academic" share which is available only to Tufts students, staff, and faculty.

The Eco-Ambassador Luncheon was held on June 19th and celebrated the accomplishments of all of our ambassadors on the Medford, Boston, and Grafton campuses.  The Eco-Ambassadors, Eco-Ambassadors' supervisors, senior administrators, and other guests enjoyed the vegetarian meal and sustainability presentations.

The Office of Sustainability is excited to announce the re-launch of the Green Office Certification Program!  Any Tufts department/office on any of the Tufts campuses is eligible to become Green Office Certified.  Talk to your department today about the sustainable practices you can implement in your office.

Introducing the new Green Office Certification Program

The Tufts Green Office Certification Program is designed to support, promote, and recognize offices across the University that are engaging in sustainable practices.  Based on the score they receive on a checklist of green office criteria, offices may achieve one of four levels of certification (Bronze, Silver, Gold, or Platinum). The newly updated program features an interactive Excel checklist that provides users with instant feedback on their performance and ideas for improvement.

In conjunction with the program’s re-launch, the Office of Sustainability is holding a Green Office Challenge, under which all offices that get certified prior to November 14 will be invited to a special awards ceremony and reception with President Monaco.

To learn more or to sign up, please visit the Green Office Certification webpage.

President's Picnic

CEEO Department
The annual staff appreciation picnic in Medford was once again a Zero Waste event!  This year the Center for Engineering Education and Outreach (CEEO) was the department with the largest number of members who BYOP (Bring Your Own Placesetting).  The CEEO has won this title two years in a row! At the President's Picnic, there was a mini-fair with the Wellness Center and other vendors who represent some of the lesser known perks of working at Tufts. Attendees who BYOP were rewarded with prizes from the Office of Sustainability.
