Hello <<First Name>> --

We need a volunteer tonight for the 4:30pm - 6:30pm shift - can you help?

Thanks to everyone who visited the roof last week. Not only was it a nice gathering with farm share friends, we also raised $121 for Feed the Farm Share! A couple of pics in the email today from the event, via our Instagram feed.

News from the farm below - sent before last night's storm, hopefully the rain hasn't caused too many problems for Fred and their team.

Feed the Farm Share!

Last year, 30 families benefited from our subsidized farm share program, which runs a family about $15 per week for a full vegetable share. This year, we've expanded the program to enroll 50 qualifying families -- our neighbors and friends -- through our Feed the Farm Share campaign.

I'll help Feed the Farm Share!

To meet the needs of these families, we need to raise $20,000 this season. Click here to show your support, or look for the donation jar at the sign-in table when you pick up your veggies tonight. Help make sure that everyone in Crown Heights has continued access to healthy, fresh fruits and vegetables!

News from the farm

Fred writes...

As you can expect, this time of year on the farm is the most challenging as far as work schedules go.  In addition to our succession seeding of many veggies, we have the cultural concerns of irrigation, cultivation, along with insect and disease pressures starting with the crops that are maturing and approaching harvest maturity.

Everyone on our staff is literally in constant motion.  Even when it rains, you might expect things to be a bit slower but the crews are still harvesting in the outside fields.  If time permits, they shift back into the greenhouses to weed, and clean up the crops that were harvested in the weeks before.

Our real task is just keeping the proper balance of crop needs to the health and well being of ourselves, along with the staff, as we are all maxing out on the time we spend tending to everything.

It is a welcome sight to view the gorgeous sunsets when we come out of the field at the end of the day, both from the work, and from the aesthetic perspectives.  I'm not sure why they look so spectacular, but they do really appear that way to us almost every day.

Be well,

Fred

How to get your veggies

The distribution location is Georgia's Place, 691 Prospect Place, on the corner of Bedford Avenue. Please go in the gate to the courtyard, not the front door.

Doors close at 8pm. We start the distribution at 5pm and close no later than 8pm. We must shut the doors by 8pm, so don't be late!

Anything not collected will be donated to residents at Georgia's Place. We can't hold onto your veggies if you don't pick them up. Please collect everything you ordered - milk, fish, veggies! If you can't make it, ask a friend to stop by and collect for you.

What's in a full and partial share will vary each week, depending on what's growing on the farm. Fred and his team try to balance the shares each week so everybody gets most vegetables over the season, and the shares are as good value as possible. If you want, use the swap box to exchange vegetables - swap any share item for another that's in the box.

Don't forget to bring bags in which to pick up your veggies.
