                 Happy August Everyone!

Hi Heart-Centered Community!

As you are reading this I'm on my first 'Mother-Daughter' vacation with my daughter Jaime.  We came back east to visit with friends and family.  While we're here she will visit a 'Hip-Hop' Academy where she may study dance. Who knew such a place even existed!  Boy - times have changed from when I grew up!

August is all about 'Moving Forward'; forgiving the past, staying focused on the present, and looking ahead to the future.   I know for myself this can be a challenge sometimes.  Life gets in the way!

Each week 'M&Ms' will cover different aspects of Moving Forward and paving the way toward our dreams and visions.

And, I want to hear from you too!  I'm looking to dialogue more with everyone, so let's engage in a conversation. Tweet me at @heartcenteredpg and let me know about your biggest relationship challenges and joys!

NEXT MONTH:
September : TBD

Here's to living a Heart-Centered Life filled with Joy, Love, and Happiness!

warmly,

Overcoming Fear of Failure

Have you ever been so afraid of failing at something that you decided not to try it at all? Or has a fear of failure meant that, subconsciously, you undermined your own efforts to avoid the possibility of a larger failure?

Many of us have probably experienced this at one time or another. The fear of failing can be immobilizing – it can cause us to do nothing, and therefore resist moving forward. But when we allow fear to stop our forward progress in life, we're likely to miss some great opportunities along the way.

In this article, we'll examine fear of failure: what it means, what causes it, and how to overcome it to enjoy true success in work, and in life.

To find the causes of fear of failure, we first need to understand what "failure" actually means.

We all have different definitions of failure, simply because we all have different benchmarks, values, and belief systems. A failure to one person might simply be a great learning experience for someone else.

Many of us are afraid of failing, at least some of the time. But fear of failure (also called "atychiphobia") is when we allow that fear to stop us doing the things that can move us forward to achieve our goals.

Fear of failure can be linked to many causes. For instance, having critical or unsupportive parents is a cause for some people. Because they were routinely undermined or humiliated in childhood, they carry those negative feelings into adulthood.

Experiencing a traumatic event at some point in your life can also be a cause. For example, say that several years ago you gave an important presentation in front of a large group, and you did very poorly. The experience might have been so terrible that you developed a fear of failure about other things. And you carry that fear even now, years later.

'Heart-Centered' Balance Tips August

Moving Forward

SPECIFIC TIPS

1.  Where: The first question to ask ourselves is 'Where'; Where are we Now, Where do we want to Go, and do I need to Let Go of Where I Was.  In order to provide yourself with directions, you have to give yourself a map.  Don't worry about 'how' you'll get there because there are many routes to the same destination.  But, you must have a destination or you'll just end up going in circles.

2.  What:  Ok - now  that you have a destination, it's time to get clear about What Exactly you Want.  The more specific the better.  You can say I want to go to NYC (which is a great 'where') but a big place.  So, to say I want to move forward in my career is too general.  What specific area, focus, vertical market, clients, etc. will get you closer to your destination.  I want to visit the Statue of Liberty in NYC will give me the exact directions to arrive at my destination.  Specificity = Exactness.

3.  When:  The next step is to create a time frame for my goal.  It needs to be realistic and doable, and also a bit of a stretch.  If it's too easy - you would have done it already!  It also needs to have some 'juice' behind it.  It needs to excite (and scare you - in a good way)! Decide right now when you want to accomplish this by and write it on your calendar.

  4. Why:  This is one of the most important questions.  Why is this goal or vision so important to you?  Why are you called forward to do this? Why are you willing to risk your Status-Quo, upset the Apple-Cart', Rattle some Cages, and Go For it?  Only you know and only you can get yourself Moving Forward and it's the 'WHY' that keeps you motivated!

5.  Who:  There are a few 'Who' questions.  Who do I need to become to Move Forward? This is all about personal development and growth.  If your goal is a stretch (which it should be) you may need to cultivate more 'self-confidence' and moxie to move forward.  Maybe you need to become more compassionate and forgiving to let go of judgements and self-criticism.  The other 'Who' question is Who Do I Want/Need on my Journey?  Surround yourself with those that will support, assist, push (or nudge) you along your path for your highest good to achieve your goal!  NOW GO - MOVE FORWARD
