Interns—Our Second Year!

Last July, we asked God if He would provide 15 interns for our ministries. We were reviving our intern program from years ago and were aiming high. We designed a program that would give real ministry experience plus mentoring to each intern. Would anyone apply?

We sought both college and seminary students. Notices were placed on several campuses, our website and in social media. David Turner joined our staff as a part-time Director of Interns and created a dynamic mentoring series for the program. He is amazing! We wanted to let students get an inside picture of ministry—to see if God was calling them to serve as vocational Christian workers.

When God brought over 40 candidates for us to interview, we were absolutely overwhelmed! Somehow, we interviewed each person in a face-to-face meeting. It was a joy to see so many talented young people who wanted to learn about ministry through EvFree. From this group, we selected ten volunteer interns and five paid interns. They had a fantastic year of learning, growing and doing ministry with us.

The Challenge for 2014

This year we are asking God to provide 25 interns. That is a huge number of young people! Would you pray with us about this? We are asking for eight paid interns and seventeen volunteer interns. The vision is for EvFree to be a beacon of training the next generation. One of our Elder initiatives is giving ministry away and we are doing it. This is an enormous vision and huge task. We need your prayers for it!

Two months ago, we asked David Robles to oversee the intern area. We changed David’s job title from children’s pastor to Pastor of Leadership Development & Young Families. This area includes Children’s Ministries, Training (which includes Interns) and Men’s Ministries. To help David with this workload, and to continue our excellent Children’s Ministry, we will hire a Children’s Operations Director to serve under David.

David Turner is going to continue as our part-time Director of Interns. David Turner and David Robles are a tremendous team for our interns! David, David and 25 interns. I’m excited about those possibilities. Please pray with us. This involves so many church leaders, staff and you. We need your prayer.

A Note from Women's Ministries

We’re in the lazy, crazy days of summer around these parts. Actually, we are still waiting for the “lazy” and hoping for some time at a ballgame, around the picnic table or at the beach. Some of us have already vacationed and others are seeing it on the close horizon. We are enjoying our summer study, RESTLESS, with DVD speaker Jennie Allen, continuing through July 30. 275 women are participating in small groups, worship, hearing testimonies and rocking out for the occasional Zumba time! It’s all good.

In the meantime, we’re hard at work gearing up for the fall start for Bible studies, MOPS, Rooted Heart, After Abortion Recovery Class, Women Aware and Choosing and more. Registration is now open for MOPS, and for most other events August 1 on our website. In the meantime, we’re on the Plaza every Sunday to answer questions and hang out with you. Stop by!

Jesus & the Immigrant

The following is a great video to help us be thinking of the biblical values concerning a pressing social need, that of immigration. What do we do with those immigrants who are in our country, both legally and illegally? How do we help those who are “foreigners and exiles” among us? Anyone can turn a cold shoulder but what does it mean to respond in love? This video helps raise vital issues on a hot potato topic. View the video here
