Enterprise and Research Centre given planning go ahead

A new multiple occupancy building, the Enterprise and Research Centre (ERC) has been given planning go ahead.The new Centre, located on Inverness Campus, will house Highlands and Islands Enterprise, the University of the Highland and Islands, and the Scottish Rural College all under one roof.

Designed by Sheppard Robson, the building will also include a Science Academy, a Regional Marketing Suite and a Digital Excellence Suite.

  Satellite Ultrasound for Rural Stroke

This exciting project conduted at the Centre for Rural Health, Inverness will demonstrate the ability to use ultrasound connected wirelessly to a novel communications hub to stream transcranial images to a remote location for real-time review to diagnose stroke. The outcome for many stroke patients could potentially be improved if they receive timely treatment. The research will be funded by Highlands and Islands Enterprise, The UK Space and Life Sciences Catapult, Dot.rural and TAQA Bratani.

£400k support for science and technologies in Highland schools

The award has been made to the University of the Highlands and Islands Development Trust to roll out the Highland CREST programme across the primary and secondary schools network in the Highland region.

Activities will be co-ordinated from the proposed Science Academy on the new Inverness Campus, where investment will be made in remote learning facilities to support the programme.

Work has started on new Life Sciences Centre for business growth.

The £3.2 million project on Inverness Campus includes funding of £835k through the European Regional Development Fund. Work started on 1st July and it will be ready in late spring of 2015.

The Centre for Health Science played host to the Highland Diabetes Conference in May. Key topics included managing diabetes with sports, carb counting, and life after islet cell transplant.
