Lesson 319: Fighting for Rescue
In the war in Bosnia in 1995, an Air Force fighter pilot’s jet was shot down. Scott O’Grady ejected and survived for 6 days until rescued by U.S. Marines. The movie Behind Enemy Lines was loosely based on his story.
When the rescue helicopter landed, O’Grady did not relax in the woods and wish the pilot had landed a little closer.
O’Grady was exhausted, starving, and had faced danger and death, 24 hours a day for nearly a week.
But when the way of escape appeared, he drew his weapon, fought through the brush, and ran with his last ounce of energy toward the escape that had been provided.
God requires believers to fight our spiritual warfare with the same intensity.
Captain O’Grady apparently sees the similarities; he recently completed his master's degree in biblical studies at Dallas Theological Seminary. Don’t assume that we have no part or no effort in our rescue.
1 Cor.16:13 Be watchful, stand firm in the faith, act like men, be strong.
1 Pet.5:8-9 be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour. Resist him, firm in your faith
1 Tim.4:10 we toil and strive, because we have our hope set on the living God
About This Series
The goal of this series is to become more useful in serving the Lord Jesus Christ, as an instrument in the Redeemer's hand. The theme verses for the series are Ephesians 4:22-24, Philemon 11, 2 Timothy 2:21
- to put off your old self, which belongs to your former manner of life and is corrupt through deceitful desires, and to be renewed in the spirit of your minds,
- and to put on the new self, created after the likeness of God in true righteousness and holiness.
- Formerly he was useless to you, but now he is indeed useful to you and to me.
- Therefore, if anyone cleanses himself from what is dishonorable, he will be a vessel for honorable use, set apart as holy, useful to the master of the house, ready for every good work.
