Temporary Art Exhibit:
Magic of Brush

Sunnyvale resident Lily Wang is celebrating her 98th birthday party at the Sunnyvale Heritage Park Museum. In conjunction with her family party, she is going to host a family/friend art show in our rotating exhibit room.

Lily was a high school/college teacher before retirement.  She has many students living in this area.  As a hobby, Lily loves Chinese brush calligraphy and painting.  Many of her students living in the area also fall in love with these forms of traditional Chinese arts. They have been meeting every week at Lily’s living room to learn and practice. This year, the students have decided to show some of their work together as part of the celebration for Lily’s 98 year birthday.

Magic of Brush will be open to the public from June 29  through July 10th during normal museum hours [Tuesday, Thursday, Sunday from noon to 4pm].  You are encouraged and welcome to stop by the Sunnyvale Historical Museum to see this interesting collection.

June General Meeting

Thanks to the attendees of our annual June General Meeting.  They were entertained by local author Robin Chapman who spoke on her latest book California Apricots: The Lost Orchards of Silicon Valley.  She gave a lively and informative presentation on the orchard families of Santa Clara Valley.

Part of the evening was also used to elect and re-elect our Board Members.  We wish to welcome our NEW board members Jim Fredrickson (our new Treasurer), Marg Clennon and Heather Jauch.

Thanks to Bert Oey and Frank Quinn of the Sereno Realty Group who provided popcorn and ran the popcorn machine for the evening (like they do for so many of our talks).  Finally, thanks to our many volunteers who provided refreshments and logistical support to make the evening a success.  It's always a team effort to put on these events.

Sunnyvale Art & Wine Festival

Did you get a chance to visit our drink booth during the Sunnyvale Art & Wine Festival?  Our volunteers put in a herculean effort throughout the day to satisfy the thirsts of the many festival attendees.

It was a hard job, and a hot day, but our society volunteers did a great job as always.

Special thanks go to Museum Vice-President Leslie Lawton for working so hard to organize our contribution to the event.

Technology Timeline Art Contest Reception

Thanks to everyone who attended the June reception for our children and teen Technology Timeline Art Interpretation Contest.  We had some amazing and imaginative entries, and prizes were awarded to all participants.  Thanks to the many local organizations that donated awards for the participants:  Electronic Arts, Inc., Golfland USA, Leigh's Books, Pinkberry, Storybook Robin, and Tutti Frutti.

Also, a special thanks goes to Sue Chen who organized the contest and worked with local schools and art teachers to get so many young minds interested.
