GOSA Monthly Update


GOSA's Interactive Education Data Map

GOSA has published an interactive district-level data map that includes district-level data on:
  • Student mobility
  • Student demographics
  • Standardized test performance
  • College and Career Ready Performance Index (CCRPI) scores
  • Community demographics
With this tool, users can view the geographic distribution of these variables on a map and examine the relationships between variables in a scatterplot.

Innovation Fund Grant Opportunities

GOSA released Grant Guidelines for the next round of Innovation Fund grant today.  Click here to access Grant Guidelines as well as other information about this fall’s round of competitive grants.
The Governor's Office of Student Achievement (GOSA) strives to increase student achievement and school completion across Georgia through meaningful, transparent, and objective analysis and communication of statewide data. In addition, GOSA provides policy support to the Governor and, ultimately, to the citizens of Georgia.
 

E-Bulletin: Overview of GaDOE's School Climate Rating
 

This fall, the Georgia Department of Education (GaDOE) will release the College and Career Ready Performance Index (CCRPI) for the 2013-14 school year. Along with this release, the GaDOE will also publish its Financial Efficiency Rating and School Climate Rating for the first time. While some elements of the School Climate Rating are still being finalized, this e-bulletin focuses on the background behind the rating and how it will be calculated.

GOSA's Report on Student Mobility

GOSA has released a new report examining student mobility patterns by school district and student demographics during the 2012-13 school year. To assess mobility at the school and district level, GOSA calculated a churn rate for each school and district, which represents the number of student entries and exits during the school year divided by the number of students in the school on the Georgia Department of Education’s fall count date of October 2. The report also uses regression analysis to explore the relationships between a school's churn rate and demographic characteristics.  At the student level, the report analyzes the relationship between the likelihood a student will move during the school year and demographic characteristics.

E-Bulletin: Teacher Induction Programs

First-year teachers often find that the theoretical knowledge learned in preparation programs does not fully prepare them for the challenges they face providing day-to-day instruction in the classroom. To address this gap, teacher induction programs provide mentoring and professional development to new teachers in the first few years of their careers.  During this time, new teachers learn to implement effective instructional strategies and student assessments, adapt to the professional norms of a school, district and the profession, and receive on-the-job training through a program that addresses their unique needs. This e-bulletin highlights the success of two programs funded through GOSA’s Innovation Fund: KIPP Teaching Fellows and Atlanta Neighborhood Charter School New Teacher Residency Project.
