Welcome to the newsletter for July.
Never a dull day. This month we have again plenty of news of cycling matters in Newcastle, and of the numerous events organised for the summer. There is an update about what's happening with transport infrastructure in Gosforth and Jesmond; a progress report of the plans for the City Cycling Ambition Fund for Newcastle; rethinking road designs as opposed to enforcing road safety: our response to new DfT consultation on Traffic Signs Regulations; and more on Space4Cycling.
Upcoming dates for the diary are:
- 12 July SCR Infra Safari – Our second safari will take SCR1 to Newburn and back to Newcastle for a coffee
- 29 July Members' Meeting and Committee Meeting – Our next committee and members' meeting will take place again in Trent House, all are welcome.
- 9 August SCR Infra Safari – This ride heads for Benfield via Sandyford and Heaton. Meet outside the Civic Centre at 10:00am.
- 13 September SCR Infra Safari – A ride out to Walker and back, stopping afterwards for a coffee. Meet outside the Civic Centre at 10:00am.
- 14-16 September Cycling & Society Symposium – The 11th C&S Symposium is co-organised by Northumbria University, Newcastle City Council and the Newcastle Cycling Campaign, all are welcome to attend.

Infrastructure: Update & Views
 Lots is happening in areas such as Gosforth and Jesmond (see the update here for the latter), plus we have a progress assessment of the £5.6m City Cycling Ambition Fund (CCAF) programme for Newcastle (click here). Road Safety: Because Engineering Matters...
 Changing people and their behaviour is one aspect of road safety campaigns, but the real key to reducing death and injury is in understanding why behaviour occurs in the first instance, and tackling these tragedies by removing flaws in the road design. Read more here.

Sustainable Safety
At the Committee meeting in June our first policy was adopted, covering 'Sustainable Safety', as it offers a positive attitude to creating space for cycling that is such an important ingredient in every liveable city. To read more, click here.
