AUGUST 2014*
*You did not miss an issue - there was no July newsletter

A Note from the President ...

I hope you are enjoying your summer and that you had an opportunity to see our "Layered" exhibition at California State University Northridge (CSUN) which closed July 2. Exhibiting artists and award winners were chosen by juror Caryl M. Christian Levy.

Award winners were Sharon Brooks (1st place), Susanne Belcher (2nd), Judy Dekel (3rd) and honorable mentions Sylvia Hamilton Goulden, Marilyn Stempel and Carole Gillin.  A special thank you to volunteers Marian Devney, Barbara Jones, Charlotte Jones, Kwei-lin Lum, Erella Teitler, Anita Van Tellengen and Jeanne Zinniker. Thank you to the artists who sat the gallery!  Also thank you to Jim Sweeters, gallery director and Michelle Giacopuzzi, assistant.  This exhibit marks the end of my position as VP Exhibits/Exhibits Chair and the beginning of my new job as President along our 2014-2016 board of directors.

I was president in 2004-2006.  Now, ten years later, I have seen the growth of CAA as a vital art organization.  Planning is underway for exciting meeting programs, exhibition venues, and workshops.  We are open to considering ideas from our members to fulfill the needs of our group.

If you have suggestions for programs, contact Barbara Jones; if you think of a great exhibit venue, contact Shawn Riley; if there is an artist with a great collage technique for us, contact Mary Guzman or Rachelle Mark.  If you have cleaned out your studio and have collage materials and old magazines to give away, contact Christel Thompson to contribute to our Second Chance table which supports the CAA scholarship program.

We are also in need of a publicity to get word out for exhibitions.  If you are good with graphics on the computer, we need you to design our postcards!  And if you are a reporter, we need you for newsletter editor!  We are handling it on our end but this group has a lot of capable artists who can share their talents.

I'd like to report that we have received our funds of $11,000 from the dissolution of VIVA Gallery.  This was achieved after CAA received its 501(c)(3) status this past fiscal year.

We rely on members' participation in programs, workshops, and entering exhibitions for support.

To continue your membership and take part in current year exhibits and programs, please renew online via PayPal at
http://www.collageartists.org/join.html or by check payable to CAA, sent to CAA Membership, 11271 Ventura Blvd. #274, Studio City CA 91604.  Guests are welcome to program meetings so bring your artist friends along and encourage them to join.
