Summer Camp Report

Seven Years of Summer Camps!

The picture above is a whole set of stories, of which I'll share just one. The two young men in the center are (L) Patrick (R) Robbie. This picture was taken during our annual NTUPES English camp a couple of weeks ago. We were on our way somewhere and stopped at a temple that had been destroyed by an earthquake (in the background). hmmm, thoughts for another time.

Robbie and Patrick and I have been able to get together a couple of times now since the English camp. Patrick plays field hockey and plans to be a coach after graduating, Robbie plays badminton and also does competitive ballroom dancing, after school, he is still unsure what He wants to do - other than make a lot of money.

These two young men are interested in the Gospel. They are asking questions. Please pray for the opportunities we will have in the coming weeks and months to talk about Jesus. Pray they will come to know Christ.

Our English camps were a great success this year. We were able to introduce many students to the Gospel for the first time and reintroduce many old friends again. Now that Crista and I live here, and are able to speak a bit of Mandarin, there is a new dimension added to these relationships. We have a church and other Christian friends to help us reach them. We continue to grow in our own ability to share the Gospel.

Most importantly, we rely on your prayers. Please make it a regular part of your prayer life to pray for us, that God will use our work here to bring people to know the saving power of Jesus Christ.

Also important - please give. In order to continue studying, and continue developing the opportunities that God is opening for us (read below), we are so grateful for how God uses you to take care of our needs. Every dollar given to Mission Taiwan is direct support and tax deductible. If you are not already giving, please join our team today! CLICK HERE.

What is God Doing?

We've been praying for God to show us what He is doing, and...

As you know, I've been studying Mandarin at the National Teacher's University (NTCU). God has given us a great burden for the college students and young adults in Central Taichung.

This past semester, God gave me an opportunity to connect with Dr. Paul Lai, the director of the Foreign Language Center, and an English Professor at NTCU. As we visited, I asked him if there was a way we might serve NTCU in the future and shared how we had worked at NTUPES in the past. Dr. Paul is in the above picture, back right.

He was very excited about our potential partnership and while the team was here, we were able to sit down and talk about some opportunities for the future.

He has given us an open door to plan an English Summer Camp at NTCU. So this next year, we will inaugurate a new ministry at NTCU with our first camp. (Will you join us?)

In addition, he has a great heart and vision to serve our local community and has offered us an opportunity to partner with the University and two local elementary schools in providing their ESL ministry. Our Mission Taiwan Board will be working on a plan stateside, but the short of it is this:
If you or someone you know is a certified teacher and would like to work in Taiwan for 1+ years, it is quite possible, we could easily secure you a job here in Taichung. Along with this job, you would have access to FREE Mandarin Language study at one of the best language training schools in the country.

As a board, we view this as the absolute providence of God. The opportunity couldn't be clearer. If you have young people who want to serve in Asia, we have been offered FREE Mandarin Training, the opportunity to work while receiving this training, a host home program for some part of your time here as well as access to inexpensive housing. There are also short term opportunities that will provide room and board along with mandarin training.
