Balancing workshop (shamedan, tray and more!) with Jehane Khan
Saturday September 20 2014 1:30-4:30 PM
Jehane, owner of Duniya Studio, will be offering a 3-hour workshop on balancing items on your head while dancing. These skills are applicable to candelabra (shamedan), tea tray (senayya), sword (saif), cane (assaya) or any other prop you may want to put on your head!
Workshop will cover techniques for improving balancing skill, purpose and context of different balance props and appropriate music pairing, turning and travelling, level changes, isolation movements and shimmies, and more! This workshop is intended for dancers with some experience (intermediate level or above).
3 hours for $40. Limit of 15 participants.
Pre-order of tea trays ($125), candelabra ($140) or sword ($150) is possible (if interested, please order by **June 30** to allow sufficient time for delivery from my supplier in Egypt).

Learn some simple costume ideas that involve simple finishing and assembly, and then start creating your own fun costume for yourself or others!
November 10-24: Holiday Sparkle:
Combining some hand beadwork, and exploring holiday glamour fabrics, including knits, we’ll play with ideas for simple accessories and ideas to add some sparkle to your holiday outfits.

CATHY
Cathy is Back!
Cathy began her Egyptian dance training with Denise Enan, world-renowned dance master, in 1977. She went on to perform professionally as a soloist for many years in the Ottawa, Montreal and Toronto areas and worked with many popular Arabic musicians and singers of the '70's and '80's.
She was a founding member of the Egyptian Enan Folkloric Troupe and the Lebanese dance troupe, Banaat Sahara, in Ottawa before moving to Lebanon for seven years, where she had the opportunity to absorb the language and culture and explore the music and dance. Since her return to Canada she has been performing and teaching both Egyptian and Lebanese dance styles, and rejoined the Enan Troupe 2008 after a long absence. She has more than 35 years of performance and teaching experience.
"I love this dance in all of its authentic forms, and have tried very hard to promote teaching standards in the Ottawa area. I encourage my students to have fun and be expressive while staying loyal to its cultural roots."
