The NAIL-ing List: Neil Alexander's News & Happenings

The July Issue of The NAILing List

Welcome to the Summerdome! Happy July, all! Hope everyone's summer is going wonderfully. There's a lot to report here. First of all, in case you've missed it, I updated the NAILblog with a post about playing with 8 different bands in one month, and how my gear has evolved over the years. Have yourself a read.

There are a handful of gigs coming up this month, including another in our Liberty Street House Concert series. Here's the play-by-play:

Screaming Fingers

House Concert & Potluck
Newburgh, NY
(RSVP for address)
Liberty Street House Concerts presents an evening of great live music, potluck and inspiring conversation featuring original music performed by guitarist and composer Reverend Screaming Fingers (aka Lucio Menegon - Music•Noise•Art) and singer-songwriter ArtemisThis part of our ongoing House Concert music series, here in the beautiful Hudson Valley. RSVP me for the address (if you don't already know it). Our event starts at 6:00pm and the music starts promptly at 7:00 There will have two 45 minute sets of music with a break between for chatting and eating. Donations of $10-20 per person suggested. Contributions go to the performers, to support their tour. This is a potluck - so please bring an appetizer, drink or dessert to share. Seating is limited. Please RSVP by email or by joining the Facebook Event, and we will provide you with the address via private message.

REVEREND SCREAMING FINGERS (aka Lucio Menegon) is a composer, improviser and sonic artist that freely mingles angular riffs, subtle sounds and sheer noise with fucking awesome in-free-fall after jumping out of a capsule at-the edge-of-space guitar work. His work fuses old blues, country, punk rock, surf, spaghetti western soundtracks and been described as "Morricone composing surf music on Laudnum…performed at a secret opium den in the basement of CBGB’s". Live sets explore the sonic possibilities of the electric and acoustic guitar, utilizing laid back melody, solid groove, tasteful looping and inspired soling. His "Music For Driving and Film" material is featured, often set to absorbing and artful film projection.

ARTEMIS is a New York native, California-based artist whose songwriting is a relentlessly genre-defiant exploration of science and sensuality, etymology and emotion, the natural and supernatural. In live performance, she layers looped vocals to build skeletons of textured harmony and quirky rhythm, adding naked timbres of piano, guitar, flute, and ukulele, alongside various electronic devices. Floating above and weaving together this simple yet sophisticated palette, the singer’s superpower is subtlety, from intricate inflections in a near-whisper, to the use of dissonance as counterweight in belted-out Bulgarian-style choirs.
