TRIFECTA AGAIN the weekend saw all three teams victorious for the second time this year. Due to a lot of players on holiday, the Ressies in particular had to scratch around for some players and were rewarded with a list of veterans who donned the boots for what was an unfortunately very one-sided game against a club that is struggling this year. Great to see Beranger, Gough, Berry, Ho, Langdon, Storey & Byrnes in the double blue once again. You blokes have not lost it!
The Unders kicked off the the day with a nail biting win over St Mary's with their 9:20am start. The nails got some respite during the Ressies vs Banyule demolition, but they were back out again for the Seniors that played some very inconsistent footy. With only minutes to go the Wellers clawed back to be even and it looked like we were header to another draw. However we managed to slot one in the dying seconds and avoid an upset. Much needed wins for the Unders and Seniors.

Saturday was always going to present as a danger game for the seniors.
Old Camberwell are seemingly targeted by opposition clubs as a winnable game should you bring you absolute best effort to the match, and our previous month of footy has exacerbated this belief amongst opposition clubs.
With Banyule fired up and at full strength and Old Camberwell having several senior players taking extended holidays, the game started with Banyule kicking the first 2 goals of the match and the chasm between our efforts and theirs was at either end of the spectrum.
A late fightback saw us take a small lead into the huddle but we were far from convincing.
The second quarter was better in effort, but it still seemed as though we were playing in second gear and always waiting for someone else to turn the game in our favour.
The message at ½ time was to really put the foot down and close the game out even though we only took a 3 goal lead in, the players felt like they had control of the game.
This feeling soon soon changed as Banyule kicked the first 3 goals to take the lead on the scoreboard and control of general play, on all accounts the quarter went the way of the visitors.
Down by 5 points (much brought about by our own doing) we rallied, settled and discussed the need to work harder. There was no panic but we just needed to focussing on ensuring it was a team effort.
A late goal broke the deadlock and the intensity for the remaining 90 seconds was outstanding (where was it for the first 3 quarters?)
As pleasing as it is to win, no doubt opposition coaches will highlight our second ½ fadeouts so “we” must remain vigilant for 4 quarters as efforts like weekends won't cut it in the coming weeks against side vying for a crack at the finals.
Confidence is huge in football and although we haven’t got the results we were seeking in the last fortnight, it could be said that 12 months earlier we would have found a way to lose both matches, this year we fought them out for a draw and win.
A small consolation but it still breaths life into the next 5 matches and as the results show, the league is consistently inconsistent, so as a group we need to decide what we want to make of the year.
I know the coaching staff are driven to make sure we’re in the mix at the pointy end of the season – we now need to ensure all the players are too.
A stronger commitment by all players may just lead to an opportunity to achieve something special.

Reserves Match Report
After a ‘Call to Arms’ during the week the Ressies were able to muster up 22 players for the match against Banyule – with only 15 players confirmed mid-week it was the likes of Beranger, Gough, Langdon, Storey & Byrnes that ensured we had a full team ready to play Saturday morning. With the addition of Henry Allwright, Ho, Tun & Matt Berry it meant we had a full bench to rotate players as required. It was also a welcome return for Nick Ross after being out of action since round 1 with a shoulder injury
With Banyule in a similar if not worse position than Old Camberwell our Captain Matt Cottrell led the charge against a heavily under manned team and by half time we had 10 goals on the board to Banyule’s none. The old stagers of Byrnes, Gough & Beranger across the half back line with Langdon, Storey & Phil Kanz in the last line of defence had completely shut out the depleted Banyule forward line.
The second half then became a procession of goals due to Banyule losing two more players and finishing the day with only 15 men. It was during this stage of the game that Alex McKenzie decided his ankle injury that had prevented him from leaving the interchange bench during the first half had suddenly healed sufficiently for him to join the fray. Macca then proceeded to score 4 goals in a quarter and a half from the forward pocket with no opponent.
Final scores in a difficult day for the Banyule FC were Old Camberwell 29 goals 23 behinds to Banyule 2 behinds

Under 19 Match Report
A last minute change of game time resulted in us getting on the main oval at home to the delight of the team and the result was a win that the players should be very proud of! Harley got injured (dislocated shoulder) in the first contest of the day so we wish him luck with his recovery. That left us with 18 players and no bench. We had 2 other main injuries - another dislocated shoulder that went back in and a dislocated finger. That meant at times in the game we played with 17 and I couldn’t be prouder of how some players played in positions they have never played in before and competed so well.
We set up the win with a huge second quarter and despite the opposition trying to catch us in the last dying minutes of the game, a goal to Zane with 2 minutes left ended up being the deciding margin!
We are all looking forward to the bye this weekend and it will good to hopefully get some fresh bodies back in to the side for the last 6 rounds of the season.

VAFA Sponsors
Over the past few years, the VAFA have done a lot of great work to involve sponsors of the whole association. This has allowed them to freeze the affiliation fees for clubs for many years. Not only are there special deals from some sponsors for players, supporters and their families, but there are some direct rebates for clubs.
For example if you are looking for a new or used car, and buy one from the Bayford Group, the club gets $500. Such an easy way to support the club with much needed funds. GET YOUR VOUCHER HERE. Please circulate amongst your friends and families.
If you are planning a holiday, please consider Royal Brunei and Mantra Group. Mention you are with the VAFA when booking. Special offers will be included in our newsletters as they become available.
