Alejandro Aquino was chosen by Maestro Osvaldo Pugliese, composer, orchestra leader and one of the most important figures in the history of tango music, to join the Orquesta Osvaldo Pugliese on tour in America, Asia and Europe.

Meet the DJ for our Milonga on Saturday 2nd August 2014
Our DJ for the night is DJ Alejandro Del Mar, with over 20 years experience as a DJ on radio and now at our Milonga!
Perth Tango has discovered a real DJ gem with Alejandro. His musical appreciation, selection and arrangement compounded with his technical skills have all contributed to a DJ of high calibre and music of pristine production. Besides his musical interpretation on the dance floor, has made him one of Perth's proficient male dancers. Watch out for his name and we predict he will make a name in the tango circuit both domestically and internationally. So be the first to say, "I knew him when he was a DJ at ....!"
Below is an excerpt from the DJ himself:
"My interest in Tango began many years ago via the music, and not the dance, when I was a Radio Engineer for a local station. At the time, in addition to my normal duties, I was DJ’ing and producing shows for various ethnic community interests. One day, a new show was scheduled, and it was a music appreciation program for music of 1920’s-1940’s and included Tango!
To help with the program, I developed a scheme called the “Itchy &Scratchy Tango Project”, whose goal was to restore Tango Music from Vinyl (78’s) and Tape. It was only me (“Scratchy”) and a Junior Sound Engineer (“Itchy”), but it’s where I learnt to master concepts such Mastering, Equalisation, Normalisation & Compression. It was the start of my addiction! (For those that are interested, I am currently using iZotope RX3 for restoration)
It was some time after that I became interested in actually dancing Tango. It was introduced to me by Kiong “El Seńor” Tan and Kyoko, who I believe are some of the most accomplished and influential dancers in the WA Tango scene today, so I feel very blessed to have both of them influence me in the early days and provided a foundation of principles that I still apply today.
My DJ’ing is now an extension of my appreciation of all things Tango. I recommend that everyone try it as it’s beyond words to explain the joy I feel when I see Tangueros dancing to a custom playlist one has created. I guess you could call it a “floorgasm”. Anyway, to that end, I have been encouraging others to try, and I am currently writing a DJ Course for Tango Music to help with that transition. I have no one favourite Tango composers; there are so many… but I do enjoy playing Canaro, D’Arienzo, Fresedo, Di Sarli and Pugliese. Personally, when dancing, I prefer my Vals a little faster, and my Milonga a little slower! See you on the dance floor!"
