Culling is holding fish in a livewell to ensure that only the best fish are taken within a daily limit. The KDFW recommended banning this practice starting March 1, 2015 to prevent large wastage of stocked trout. Read more here.

Healing Waters
Program now in Lexington
Project Healing Waters is a national program which uses fly fishing in the rehabilitation of disabled veterans. Their next event is July 25 from 5-8PM. If you are interested in getting involved, please contact Erin, or click the picture for more info about the organization.
The fishing has been good in several different arenas of late. Our beloved Cumberland River has been fishing well with the standard Hare's Ear and Zebra Midge nymph selection. Quite a few Rainbows in the 18" to 21" range have been caught by clients of The Cumberland Drifters guides. They are fat and healthy! When the flows are right, the fishing's great.
The Smallmouth are on! The Elkhorn and other local creeks have been fishing well lately. Surface diving flies, as well as crayfish imitations have been bringing a good number of decent fish to hand. The water is low, clear, and warm - time to hit the creeks.
Largemouth in ponds are very active as well. A good number of piggy sized "Largies" are falling prey to crazy surface flies, as well as large Clouser Minnows. If you've got access to a good pond, get out there and have some fun!
From "My Healthy Stream"
Streams are the “life blood” of the land. They are “veins and arteries” that carry the substance—water—that all life depends on. The food we eat, our health, and our overall quality of life is inextricably linked to the quality and quantity of water flowing in our rivers and streams. From a tiny spring seep trickling into a small stream to large rivers, streams connect the mountains to the valleys, the headwaters to the oceans, and the people to the land. The health of our streams is a direct reflection of the health of the land.
