Care Act 2014 - New Policy Briefing for erosh members
The Care Act received Royal Assent on 14 May 2014 and its provisions come into effect in April 2015. Government says that it will “make a difference to some of the most vulnerable people in society for many years to come”. In the Act and the accompanying guidance, there is a greater appreciation of the role of housing and housing related support in individual well-being but it falls short of fully recognising the significance of the preventative work our members do which reduces the pressure and cost on health and social services.  This briefing explains the background to the Act and its links with the Better Care Fund; helps you navigate round the different parts of the Act; comments on the provisions from the perspective of erosh and its members; outlines the consultation process and timetable; and provides handy links to further information.

Through our lobbying activities, erosh seeks to actively influence government policies and practice with a collective voice of our membership. Therefore this is an opportunity for you to add your voice as an erosh member to our response to the government. Email your response to Rebecca Mollart at policy@erosh.co.uk for it to be included in the Erosh response.

We will also be discussing this act on our Twitter and FaceBook pages over the coming weeks. Be sure to join in the discussion.

Silver Sunday October 5th – Get involved & get planning!
Silver Sunday is an annual day of fun and free activities for older people across the UK. Supported by The Sir Simon Milton Foundation it celebrates the value and knowledge they contribute to our communities while combating loneliness and isolation. Everyone can get involved, whether that’s organising an event, spreading the word, or simply attending an activity. Hosts are already beginning to confirm events and are continuing to offer an exciting and a wide range of activities. Tea dances, gardening sessions and dance classes are all preparing themselves for the day. We want Silver Sunday to reach as far and wide as possible so if you have an idea for an event – get involved! Take a look here to find out more http://silversunday.org.uk/get-involved/ or get in touch via info@silversunday.org.uk.

Erosh Annual Awards – Winners Feedback & Sponsorship Opportunities in 2015
“We were over the moon with winning a prize at the erosh awards as were the tenants who were involved in the project.  Summerdale Close have chosen to spend their prize money on a pond for their garden.  They have worked hard on their gardens over the last year - creating an allotment area, raised flower beds and seating areas and the pond will be the icing on the cake for them.”   Rena Karadogan, Care and Support Business Development Manager, RCT Homes.

Given the great success of this year’s awards, planning is already underway for next year’s celebration of good practice, which will take place in March. Sponsoring the erosh annual awards enables you to connect with influential organisations and decision makers in the older people’s housing & support sector. Supporting erosh places you at the heart of the sector and provides your business with real rewards from networking, positioning and profiling opportunities at this prestigious event. If your organisation is interested in sponsorship opportunities at the 2015 annual awards event, please email alison@evergreenmarketing.co.uk or tel. 01789 720155.

Sitra - One-Page Profile Campaign
The first step on any person-centred approach to support is to establish what is important to the individual. A one-page profile is the first step in this process and enables a person on a single piece of paper to share some key details about themselves. One-page profiles have been used for some time in social care and were adopted by the health sector during the inaugural NHS Change Day in 2013 when Helen Sanderson Associates made a pledge to support 1000 staff and patients in the NHS to create and use one-page profiles. Sitra is now delighted to be working in collaboration with Helen Sanderson Associates to introduce the one-page profile for housing and want to encourage their members and all Supported Housing providers to adopt the One-Page Profile as the first step in person-centred support.  Find out more about this campaign.

CIH Delivering Housing Solutions for Older People Conference & Exhibition
On 9th & 10th Sept at the Holiday Inn Hotel in Stratford Upon Avon, this 2 day conference will focus on delivering, in partnership with other agencies, high quality services in different settings to meet the needs of older people. With the current changes starting to be implemented the Government is certainly having a significant impact on the housing sector and the provision of housing and support for an ageing population. The Department of Health aims to give more housing options for older and disabled people, particularly for those who are older home owners, through a care and support housing fund of £200million over 5 years. During the conference you will gain up to date information on the latest opportunities the care bill will create and the challenges organisations face to improve health in housing.

Imogen Parry, Adult Safeguarding expert, will be presenting on behalf of Erosh at the conference.
