Friday 1:  The Civil Aviation Authority in Uganda has stopped all operators carrying out international flights.  This means that MAF cannot fly into East DRC or South Sudan from Uganda at present.  We, along with the other operators, are required to re-apply for our international flight privileges, a process that could take several months.  Pray that the documentation will be efficiently and quickly processed by the CAA so that international operations can begin again soon.

Saturday 2: Praise the Lord for the successful church rally in Milingimbi Island, Arnhem Land recently.  Continue to pray that this will be a time of transformation for community members.

Sunday 3: Praise God that on one of the first landings at the newly completed airstrip on Atauro Island in Timor-Leste MAF was able to evacuate a seriously ill patient to Dili hospital on the mainland.

Monday 4: Pray against the spread of the Ebola virus in West Africa.  Pray for healing for the two American missionaries who have just tested positive for the virus in Liberia.  Also pray for wisdom as MAF staff plan to move to Liberia to commence operations there.

Tuesday 5: Uphold Mareeba based engineers who are currently in Bangladesh doing a maintenance check on the aircraft.

Wednesday 6: Give thanks for the arrival of the Baguma family in Chad.  Pray for Sam, Abby and their two children as they settle in to life in N'djamena.  And uphold Sam in his new role as Programme Manager in Chad.

Thursday 7: Pray for strength for our pilots in the Kenya programme currently working with reduced pilot numbers.

Friday 8: Pray that the MAF Women’s Prayer Retreat in Arnhem Land (which starts tonight and concludes on Sunday) is a time when God speaks powerfully and tenderly to his daughters.

Saturday 9: Give thanks that MAF engineers were able to travel to Jiech, South Sudan and fix a problem on an aircraft that was stranded there recently.

Sunday 10: Learning Technologies in Goroka, Papua New Guinea is conducting basic computer training courses for over 30 local pastors.  Pray that these pastors will now have the confidence and opportunities to use computers to enhance their ministries.

Monday 11: Pray for good health for the team in Chad as the rain season approaches.  This is the time when malaria is most prevalent.

Tuesday 12: There are many opportunities for ministry and witness in Timor-Leste through MAF’s aviation work as well as to Timorese neighbours, the expat community, through the church, social groups and volunteering opportunities.  Pray for the Lowe and Bottrell families as they show God’s love to those around them.

Wednesday 13: Give thanks for International Development Manager Bill Harding’s recent trip to India.  Praise God for the contacts made with Christian churches and mission groups.  Pray now for strong ongoing relationships as MAF works to build resources in India, as well as in other countries in Asia.

Thursday 14:  Give thanks for the three new MAF families arriving in Uganda this month.  Pray as preparations are made for their arrivals, including organising and equipping houses for them.

A note from Angela:

like to be organised.  I’m heading across to Arnhem Land next weekend to lead a prayer retreat for our MAF women, and I’m getting prepared.  It’s good to be prepared, but in my effort to have everything ‘under control’, I run the risk of failing to allow space for God.  This can be quite limiting when I’m attempting to lead people to meet with Him!

Last year during another prayer retreat, I lost my notes at a rather crucial time.  I froze, panicked and then realising my lack of control over the situation, I let go and let God speak through me.  It became an enforced opportunity for God to lead and me to follow.  And it was wonderful.

I wonder if there are areas of your life when you struggle to allow God to take the lead - areas that you are keeping control of like your thought life, what you watch or read, your finances or decisions about where you live, when you move on, what you do or who you do it with.

Of course we’re free to choose to keep control and do it our way.  But it’s so much better to lose control and do it God’s way!  May we each choose well this week.
