A Message From The President

July 31, 2014                       Volume 2 No. 35
IANA Stewardship Transition Coordination Group (ICG)

I was nominated by Country Code Names Supporting Organisation (ccNSO) Mid July as one of the 4 representatives of the ccNSO Community on the IANA Stewardship Transition Coordination Group (ICG). A call was made for nomination and I applied. A nominating committee process was instituted by the ccNSO who selected 4 candidates from the several applications received. I represent the Country Code Top level Domains (ccTLDs) in the African region.
I will be working with this group until the proposal is submitted to the US National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) by May 2015. The first face-to-face (f2f) meeting was held in London 17-18 July, 2014. In this first meeting, the ICG developed a proposed charter and scope for its future work in support on the community's development of a proposal on the IANA functions stewardship transition. I will keep you all updated as the task progresses and solicit your input and suggestions to help us succeed in the assignment.

Other Committees on the IANA Transition would be established by ICANN.  There is the Enhancing ICANN Accountability Committee which would soon be constituted.  I will encourage DNS Industry stakeholders to participate in this process. See the update at:

Upperlink Becomes ICANN Accredited Registrar

The country’s internet density received a boost as the global internet body, Internet Corporation of Assigned Names and Numbers [ICANN] announced the accreditation of Nigeria’s leading registrar, Upperlink July 2014, which makes the company first Nigerian and eighth accredited registrar in Africa. With the new status, Upperlink would serve Nigerian and international markets. As the leading Nigeria Internet Registration Association [NIRA]’s accredited registrar, Upperlink is in the forefront of registrars spearheading the migration of Nigerian companies from .com to the .ng domain name, which is Nigeria’s Country Code Top Level Domain, and also its other second level extensions. Segun Akano, Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of the company, said the .ng domain “is a short and unique domain”. With the ICANN accreditation Upperlink joins fellow Registrars from Ghana, Senegal and South Africa, in the prestigious club of ICANN Accredited Registrars in Africa. Congratulations, Upperlink!
