Art to Change the World: Inspiring Social Justice

ArtPrize is a radically open, independently organized international art competition. Occurring annually, the 19-day competition turns three square miles of downtown Grand Rapids, Michigan, into an open playing field for art and creative expression. At ArtPrize, everyone is invited to find a voice in the conversation about what art is, and why art matters. It’s unorthodox, highly disruptive, and undeniably intriguing to the art world and the public alike.
ArtPrize accepts any individual over 18 as a competing artist and any space in the designated district as an ArtPrize venue. Registered artists and venues connect online at artprize.org and agree to present the artwork for public display. The public votes using free mobile apps, text messages and the web to distribute a $200,000 grand prize and $60,000 in category awards, while an additional $200,000 grand prize and $100,000 in category awards are decided by expert jury.
Fountain Street Church is a beautiful, historical, downtown landmark. In partnership with the American Civil Liberties Union they are hosting an ArtPrize exhibit entitled Art to Change the World: Inspiring Social Justice featuring 28 works of art created by 34 artists. The exhibit honors the role art plays as a change agent for social and economic justice. Our exhibit draws over 20,000 visitors and we have been recognized by ArtPrize jurors and the media as one of the most compelling exhibits in the city. Architectural and historical aspects of the building will also be available for viewing.

Curatorial Debut
Widening the Cycle - A Menstrual Cycle & Reproductive Justice Art Exhibit

I am curating a menstrual cycle and reproductive justice theme exhibit, entitled Widening the Cycle, for display during the upcoming biennial conference of the Society for Menstrual Cycle Research. Since opening the Call for Art, I have received numerous entries and am thrilled to see what women artists are making!
If you know any women artists whose work addresses menstruation or reproductive justice, please share the Call for Art with them. I am seeking broad interpretations and multicultural perspectives on this theme from both emerging and experienced artists.
