Manor Expressway Surpasses Projected Traffic Goal

The new Manor Expressway (290 Toll) opened in May 2014 and is already surpassing projected traffic and revenue estimates, showing just how high the demand is for the new six-lane facility. Within weeks of the project’s grand opening, average weekday transactions soared to nearly 47,000. To put that in perspective, the roadway was not projected to hit 41,000 transactions until 2015. This dramatic success raised the Mobility Authority’s overall average weekday transactions system-wide to 170,000 – nearly double the amount from this time two years ago.

The Manor Expressway links east Travis and southern Williamson Counties and the SH 130 Corridor to downtown Austin. In addition to six new tolled Express lanes it adds improved capacity with six non-tolled frontage lanes, as well as a shared-use path for pedestrians and cyclists. The new Expressway is expected to be an economic boom to this already fast-growing area.

After dealing with several years of construction, the community responded with enthusiasm to the project's opening. Nearly 1,000 people enjoyed a festival-style grand opening celebration on May 17, complete with live music, artisan booths, food, kid’s activities and a 5K fun run.

Envisioning Central Texas:

A Q&A with Mike Heiligenstein

Video screen captureIn his latest video message, Mobility Authority Executive Director Mike Heiligenstein discusses important advancements in our region's mobility.

“The vision for the Regional Mobility Authority is to look at the entire network as a system," Heiligenstein says. "How do the roads play off of each other…are they integrated? Do we have seamless connections between our roadways. That’s really something that we’ve lacked in this area for a long time.”

Construction to Begin for Improvements to 183A and US 183 Intersection

The Mobility Authority Board of Directors has approved construction for important improvements to the intersection of 183A and US 183 in Leander where 183A currently ends.

The $4.4 million dollar project will help drivers better navigate the intersection and allow for improved access to future developments along 183A. The city of Leander helped secure a portion of the funding for the project by working with developer Crescent Communities to contribute to construction costs. “Bryson," a master-planned residential community, is being planned for the area.

Maha Loop Groundbreaking

On July 9, the Mobility Authority Board Member Nikelle Meade and Executive Director Mike Heiligenstein joined with Travis County Precinct 4 Commissioner Margaret Gomez to celebrate a groundbreaking of the $16.6 million non-tolled Maha Loop extension project in East Travis County.

The almost two-mile stretch of road will connect Pearce Lane to State Highway 71. It will also be an important artery to reduce congestion around the Formula One track. The Mobility Authority was approached because of our reputation for delivering projects on budget and on time, and because we have the design-build authority to construct projects like this.

183A Resurfacing

The Mobility Authority is resurfacing the north and southbound frontage lanes of 183A in Williamson County. The project will remove and replace the top two inches of the 18-inch thick pavement along the frontage roads. The resurfacing process is expected to be finished by the end of October 2014. While some work will occur at night to minimize disrupting traffic, motorists should be aware of daytime lane closures during the construction period.
