Selected Weekly Saltiness:  YES, AND...

Letter from the Editors:

Sweet Salties!

The famous rule improv is "yes, and..." because that keeps the momentum going and allows for things to get really fun/weird/where no woman has gone before. While we're maybe a little more of the "yes, and?" lot, we couldn't pass up the opportunity to be a part of this upcoming comedy event hosted by tascbar. We don't like to take ourselves too seriously at Salted. Some might even say we like if we weren't so saltie we'd be full of piss and vinegar. It's part of our charm <bats lashes>. So we couldn't be more thrilled to be co-sponsoring our very first comedy night!

You are cordially invited to:

Improv/Comedy Writing Workshop
+ FREE Standup Showcase Performance by Up-and-Coming NYC Female Comedians!

If you live in NYC, this night of female-fueled comedy is not to be missed! Especially if you're a writer and have a deep burning desire to contribute to our brand of Scarletry. <wink>

Salted Scarletry is co-sponsoring this FREE comedy night featuring up-and-coming female comedians on Thursday, July 31st. Click here for more details and to RSVP. There is limited space so don't wait!

Charmingly yours,
Jennilyn
 & Matt

We Love.

WTF?

Lady Juice

Do you juice? Do you know there's a special blend for your lady parts? Thanks to a South Beach juice joint's “Happy V” tonic, there are a bunch of smiling Vs out and around Miami. You know what they say: A drink of coconut meat, coconut water, pineapple, coconut oil, and kefir probiotics a day will keep the annoying vagina doctor away!

Supercalifragilistic-expiali-bullshit

Minimum wage isn't a joke, and yet it is at the same time. Kristen Bell's hand at Mary Poppins quitting over unfair wages is the most delightful complaint we've ever heard on the subject, written by the very funny Eliza Skinner for Funny or Die. Because those birds don't come for free!

Abstin-enforcer

When a Canadian high school student was made to complete a mandatory abstinence-only workshop that "slut-shamed students and used scare tactics to enforce abstinence" in order to graduate, she wasn't going to just let it slide. So she and her mother filed a human-rights complaint over the outrageously nonfactual information. Sadly, this is not an isolated case.

From the Site THIS WEEK:

Honorable Mentionables:

She didn't necessarily "save feminism" but we think Beyonce looks pretty sharp as Rosie the Riveter.

Before they were famous! This video of Tina Fey and Rachel Dratch's two-woman show from 1999 is super funny and an instant classic.

Feminist horror author in 80s mom glasses? Yes, please! If you've never heard of Angela Carter, what are you waiting for?

What did the 'Golden Girls' teach us about HIV/AIDS? A lot.
