UPDATE: State House Push Yesterday

Greg Sorozan, co-coordinator, and Suffolk Law Professor David Yamada welcomed the group with the status of the Healthy Workplace Bill (HB 1766), emphasizing our role in spreading word of the bill nationally. SEIU/NAGE 5000 Political Director Ray McGrath expressed NAGE’s continuing commitment to move the bill “because it’s the right thing to do for ALL WORKING PEOPLE, not just for Union members."

Rep. Ellen Story, who spoke on the need for passing her sponsored legislation, is doing everything she can to call for a vote on the HWB. Reps. Gailanne Cariddi, Frank Smizik, and Denise Andrews participated in discussion. The Massachusetts Nurses Association and the new president of the Massachusetts Teachers Association showed their support.

Boston Globe Reporter Bella English covered the event and will write a piece about our advocacy and the HWB after a lukewarm editorial in the Globe about the HWB.

We talked with our legislators, starting with House Speaker Robert DeLeo’s Office. The Speaker was in conference, so we left materials and a “help pass the Healthy Workplace Bill” button with his aide. We ask that the Speaker pick up the Bill and pass the Healthy Workplace Bill before July 31, 2014.

Contact the Speaker's Office and ask for his championing of our Bill an vote for approval.
