I hope you are having a great summer. Here is a quick update on what is happening in Newtonville and beyond.

Walnut Street Repaving
Walnut Street south of the village center is being repaved on Saturday August 2, so the road will be closed from 8am to 8pm. Plan ahead!

Fireworks
The postponed July 4th fireworks will take place on Saturday Aug 16th at Albemarle Field in Newtonville.

Austin Street
According to an email sent out by the City of Newton Planning Department, the second community input session re the proposed development of the Austin Street parking lot takes place Monday, July 28 from 7-9PM in the Newton North High School cafeteria.  This session will include a summary report of the input received at the previous community input session, as well as a presentation and discussion of the parking study conducted. Click here for the study and here for the appendix.

Traffic/Parking
Two Ward 2 items will be discussed at the next Traffic Council meeting Thurs, July 31, 7pm in City Hall Room 209.
  • TCXX-14 Ald. Norton, requesting review and possible change of the time limits on the parking meters located on the north side of Washington Street between Walnut Street and Central Avenue. (Ward 2)
  • TC43-14 Alderman Norton, requesting a stop sign on Bridges Avenue, at the intersection of Norwood.  (Ward 2)
I have requested additional Ward 2 traffic improvements, in particular the intersections of Lowell/Highland and Lowell/Austin. In fact there was an accident with an overturned car on Lowell and Austin just this morning. Our Traffic Engineers are studying both intersections and have promised recommendations for improved safety within the next few weeks.

Cape Verdean Music in Washington Park
On Wed July 30th as part of the Mayor’s “Dancing in the Park” Series, Cruzamente will be performing in Washington Park in Newtonville: “Original and contemporary Cape Verdean music, infusing styles of jazz and Latin music into catchy, danceable, and heartfelt grooves.” http://www.cruzamente.com

Newtonville Area Council
The next meeting of the Newtonville Area Council is Wed., August 13 at 7pm at the Newton Senior Center. A meeting agenda will be posted here.
