THE WEEK THAT WAS AT OZ

A mighty huge week was had at OzHarvest around the country.

Actually it's been a huge few weeks… so where do we start?

We launched our #mealforameal campaign with Virgin Mobile which has seen an overwhelming 30-odd thousand food pics posted via social media using the #mealforameal hashtag. Each hashtag = 1 meal we can deliver. So that means we can deliver the equivalent of 30,000 more meals to people in need thanks to everyone who has taken part!

If you’ve been hiding under a social media rock and have not heard of #mealforameal, just check out this awesome campaign video.

If you know at least ONE person who posts photos of their food all the time! Tag them in, and help us deliver an extra meal or 10!

The amazing guys at Messina and Brasserie Bread even got in on the action and made a special “Bread and Butter Pud for Good” rescued ice-cream flavour to support the campaign. Together with Virgin Mobile, we are aiming to reach 400,000 meals so let's get hash-tagging... even Jamie Oliver is on board, what are you waiting for!

THINK.EAT.SAVE

Earlier this week, on Monday, 21 July, OzHarvest successfully fed up to 10,000 members of the public from all walks of life, using surplus rescued food at Think.Eat.Save events in Sydney, Adelaide, Brisbane, Melbourne and Newcastle.

Thousands converged at Martin Place in Sydney, St Stephen’s Cathedral in Brisbane, Federation Square in Melbourne, The University of Adelaide as well as Hunter St Mall in Newcastle to show their support in reducing food waste. Celebrity chefs and personalities appeared left, right and centre showing their support. Check out our great photo gallery.

Food waste, sustainability and food security were the hot topics of twitter, Instagram and facebook, with #thinkeatsave a trending topic in Australia.

Check out some news stories on Think.Eat.Save that ran on SBS, Channel 7, Channel 9.

Watch our video wrap up kindly created by our friends at Liquid Ideas.

THANK YOU TO ALL OUR SUPPORTERS

We could not have done it without the help of all the believers, supporters and amazing volunteers, uniting to help us raise awareness about the massive issue of food waste which is costing Australians up to $10 billion each year, while two million people still rely on food relief.

Please visit our website blog to read about our menu on the day, our suppliers and activities.
