When was the last time you had a check-up Storyteller?

You may not think that's a biz-related question, but stick with me a moment and I promise you'll understand.

See, I just got back from the doctor's office and what happened there shocked me big time.

Don't worry. I'm not sick.

I went because it's been almost a year since I moved to Portland and closer to two years since I had a physical.

I'd been avoiding the whole search-for-a-new-doc-headache because I was sure there'd be rigmarole-beyond-belief in finding someone I both liked and who took our Blue Shield of California insurance here in Oregon.

Lucky* for me, I fell down the stairs earlier this year.

That little accident forced me to figure out the crazy insurance stuff so I could get my back x-rayed. (Nothing was broken, but I do have the beginning stages of osteoporosis. Gah!)

That week, I ended up at Providence Urgent Care and found -- lo and behold -- I kinda liked the place.

So I decided to give them a try with a more permanent doctor situation.

What I found is a very cool system with lots of great doctors, physician's assistants, nurses and other wonderful people.

It started with an over-sized postcard welcoming me to my new neighborhood.

That postcard reminded me that I needed to schedule my annual exam (now more than a year overdue).

I called the number and left a message for them to call me back.

And they did.

This system is unlike any I've EVER experienced. Waaaay better than Kaiser. Heads and shoulders technologically above the system we had in San Jose, CA (aka Silicon Valley).

They have this service called MyChart. It let's me communicate directly with my medical team. Yes, my TEAM. We're assigned not just a primary doctor, but a back-up doc and a physician's assistant, too.

I can use the MyChart app on my phone (or my computer) to make appointments, request Rx refills, even ask my doctor questions. At no extra charge.

What?!

Why isn't every medical system doing this? (Or more specifically, what backward insurance have I been living with my whole life?)

Even more astounding? I. DIDN'T. WAIT. At all.

My name was called before I even finished filling out my medical history. And the Physician's assistant I saw? She walked into my room less than one minute after the nurse had finished taking my vitals.

What?!

And then <cue orchestral music>...She took her time with me.

I was there for almost an entire hour -- getting my annual lady exam and talking about every little thing that was on my mind.

She asked me questions. She didn't scold me for being overweight (that NEVER happens). She looked me in the EYEBALLS.

To say I'm seriously impressed with this group is an understatement.

These folks are doing it right.

And now I'm back home scheduling my follow-up blood work and telling you all about them.

And I wanted to ask you...

When was the last time you examined your own business processes?

I'm not talking here just about the technology you're using, or your financial statements (they're important, too, but nope...)

I'm wondering if you know if you're creating and delivering the best-possible-experiences for your clients?

Are your products and services exceeding your customers' expectations?

How do you know?

Are you consistently measuring the changes in their lives? (What kind of before-and-after stories can you tell?)

Are you regularly asking for detailed feedback on how they experienced your magical thing? (Do you have a system for this so you don't forget?)

Because if you're not checking in with them, you probably don't have a clue how to take your business to the next level.

And I want you to have a clue.

In fact, I want you to have a whole playlist of ways to knock the socks off your most important peeps.

Because word-of-mouth is the most powerful driver of new business in nearly every industry.

Especially yours.

Here are three friendly (free and low-cost) invitations that can help you get there:

  1. Come as my guest to my August Brunch & Learn (via Google hangout) and learn How to Create (and Price) Your Signature Dish Product or Service. We meet on Monday, August 4th @ 9:00 a.m., Pacific. RSVP here.
  2. Book a 30- or 60-minute laser-coaching session with me and we'll examine your process in detail together; then strategize how to bake in more amazingness to what you're already doing. (If you're totally new here and we've never talked, you're invited to start with a 20-minute Pink Spoon session -- on the house.)
  3. Be a Beta-Tester for my new Testimonial Stories Service (and save 50% in the process). I'm only accepting four more folks into this new program, so act quickly. Once the spots are gone. They're gone.
Whatever you decide to do, do it full out!

Commit to your business and focus on being creative with your approach. Don't limit yourself to "best practices" and "industry standards." Ugh. Those will only keep you in the same-old
mediocre rut as everyone else.

The world needs you to be better than that.

Hugs and (low-fat) quiches,
Tea
*Sometimes bad things have a silver lining. My fall down the stairs got me to the Providence medical group. It also made me stop and rest. Something I highly recommend you do, before you have an accident, too. <3
p.s. - I'm sending handwritten love notes (aka Manna Mail) to your friends and colleagues on this list. If you'd like to receive the occasional letter from me via snail mail, just update your subscription preferences to include your mailing address. And then keep your eyes peeled for a surprise!
