Reflections: New Zealand Youth Choir in the South Island

With texts in Swedish, Latin, German, English and ‘New Zealand’, the NZ Youth Choir’s South Island programme is both eclectic and global. Vaughan Williams’ settings of three Shakespeare lyrics are half a world away from John Rimmer’s ‘Seven Summer Haiku’ on this choral journey.

Details on the concerts in Dunedin St Paul’s Cathedral on 5 September (advance sales from MusicWorks Dunedin) and Christchurch on 6 September (tickets from Ticketek) can be found on the Choirs Aotearoa website.

Lexus Winner

The Lexus Song Quest Grand Final took place on 26 July in Auckland Town Hall with the six finalists accompanied by the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra and pianist Terence Dennis. As with all Song Quest finals, Choirs Aotearoa and the New Zealand Youth Choir had a special interest with current member Benson Wilson and two former NZYC members Isabella Moore and Oliver Sewell in the line-up together with Edward Laurenson, Christian Thurston and Bianca Andrew.

The winner was NZ Youth Choir alumnus, Isabella Moore. Second place went to Benson Wilson who is a current member of NZ Youth Choir.

Congratulations to Isabella, Benson and all the finalist. Find out more here.
