Summer in Birch Clump

August trip back home

I hope you are having a great summer. I will head to Northern Wisconsin via Michigan’s Lower and Upper Peninsula. I hope to stop in Birch Clump on my return trip. Regardless if I get to our precious little village or not this year, I will pass through other places found in my novels and in the Birch Clump Village Reader series.
By the time you receive this, I am probably north of the 45th parallel on my vacation in the U.P. or Northern Wisconsin.
Book number 5 in the BCVR series is pretty much finished. It needs a few tweaks and some more proofing before it hits the press. I estimate a publication in the second half of September or in October of this year, 2014.
Within some of the stories, we learn a bit more about Sgt. T. Douglas currently and a story he shared from his high school days, around 1967. He admits he looked rather nerdy back then.
Readers already realize that there are two Bubbas. I identify them as Bubba Sr. and Bubba Junior. Little will be mentioned of Bubba Sr. in this next book other than some of the villagers mention his name in 1978. I surmise that Bubba Sr. was probably an older teen or a young man at the time.
Bubba Jr. just graduated from college this year, at age 22 I think, maybe 23. He majored in journalism and communications. BCVR #5 includes some stories about Bubba Junior. Sarge and the monks over at Annunciation are quite proud of Bubba, his graduation and all. He had some tremendous hurdles to get over to get this far, as you will be able to read about.

Contest?

I am preparing for a contest. I will pick up some interesting souvenir of the Upper Peninsula to give away in another Birch Clump Village E-Newsletter. I guarantee it will be made in the U.P. or Northern Wisconsin, not imported from abroad. So, no contest with this issue of the e-newsletter, but just letting you know another chance at a freebie is coming. There is never an obligation to purchase anything in order to enter and to win. In fact, I don’t think it is possible to make a direct purchase of anything via these e-newsletters.

Here is a drawing of Bubba. You may have seen this before. He’s puny, but somewhat cute, eh?
See yous* in September unless I manage to get another e-newsletter out while I’m on vacation. That is the wonders of modern media technology. I can publish from virtually anywhere in the world, even direct from Birch Clump if someone up there lets me use their Wi-Fi. I wonder if the restaurant or general store offers free Wi-Fi?
*Note: “Yous” is the colloquial plural of you in Yooper talk; ja eh.
