Scholarship Program   by Lawrence Gu

The Education Committee was proud to present eleven well-qualified scholarship recipients on June 21, 2014 during Western Night.  This year, the scholarship amount was increased to $1,000, to which the outbound high school seniors may use to purchase materials, pay for tuition and prepare for there upcoming college careers.  It was a difficult decision for the judges, especially given that there were over 20+ qualified applicants this round.  The applicants came from all the major high schools in San Francisco and different backgrounds (1st and 2nd+ generation Chinese American ancestries) and were selected for their academic excellence, extra-curricular experiences and financial needs.  In the process of a group interview, applicants were able to better understand the functions of the C.A.C.A. SF Lodge, share heart touching stories with the judges and get to know other fellow students better.  The high school scholarship program has become a vital part of our lodge's community outreach and an education portal linking the rich history and cultural heritage of Chinese Americans in San Francisco with our younger generation.
