StoraEnso report improved Q2 financial results following on from the lower costs brought about by their re-structuring due to the ongoing decline in paper demand.
DS Smith have expanded their paper recycling activities by completing their acquisition of the Italian operation Italmareci Srl. Smiths had owned 50% of the business since they purchased SCA Pkg in 2012, and are already Europe’s largest paper recycling operation.
European paper recycling is currently at >72% or >57miol tns.
US operator Resolute Forest Products report a fall in Q2 sales resulting in an operating loss of $8million. Whilst Q2 reflected the fall, it was the poor weather conditions in Q1 that created this spike, and they are confident of delivering stronger performances across their business sectors (timber & paper) for Q3/Q4.
Sappi have confirmed the disposal of their Nijmegen mill in the Netherlands to an American acquisition company. The mill will be renamed Innovo Papers and manufacture speciality papers instead of coated graphic papers.
The CEO of Swan Mill Paper Co UK., has been named director of the year by the IOD. Swan is market leaders in the disposable tableware industry as well as involvement in gift wrap and packaging.
