SEPTEMBER GUEST ARTIST
MATJAMES METSON is an accomplished and intuitive self-taught assemblage artist. He rescues images and found objects and uses them to create new and intricately hand-crafted assemblage and collage structures. Metson combines found items with any number of elements - chairs, cigar boxes, keys, knives, mousetraps, nails, pencils, toys, wood, etc. - to tell his haunting tales.
A native of a small town in upstate New York, Metson is the son of free-spirited, artistic, teaching parents. He was raised in a creative environment and lived a somewhat nomadic lifestyle. He lived nearly two decades in New Orleans, honing his skills in an antebellum atmosphere. Then Hurricane Katrina struck and he lost his entire studio and all of his art in the disaster. Metson moved to Los Angeles to rebuild his life and has lived there for nearly a decade now.
Metson's art is complex, elegant, refined and exquisitely constructed. He strives toward complexity and challenge vs. perfection and aims to challenge not just himself but also the viewer. Metson's goal is to create sculpture that uses architecture, geometry and craftsmanship in balance with fine art.
Matjames Metson has received wide acclaim for his work and has exhibited in numerous galleries and museums. His presentation is not to be missed!
CAA WORKSHOP: ENCAUSTICS
Get ready for a "luminous" new workshop on Wednesday, October 29, 10am - 4pm! Meet new art buddies as we connect with each other in this exciting learning experience.
THE USE OF ENCAUSTIC IN MIXED-MEDIA ART is an exciting, informational and fun workshop conducted by award-winning artist Rachelle Mark. Encaustic is an ancient process that has seen a revival due to the work of artists Diego Rivera and Jasper Johns, among others. Discover its history and learn how to use encaustic to enhance your artwork. We will learn about and experiment with the encaustic process as we focus on applying it to our final project, the human figure.
Space is limited, so don't think twice! More info to come. Feel free to contact Rachelle with any questions.

OPPORTUNITIES
The following artist opportunities are not CAA events but are provided for your information.
EXHIBITS
NO BOUNDARIES: AN OPEN JURIED EXHIBITION
The San Fernando Valley Arts and Cultural Center in Southern California announces a juried exhibit open to all artists who can hand-deliver their work. Artwork will be juried using digital images (jpgs) through Online Juried Shows. Submitted artwork should reflect the artist’s interpretation of the theme “No Boundaries.” We'd like to see artists “push the envelope” a little and even work outside their immediate comfort zones. Explore new colors and subject matter. Cross borders without any roadblocks. Use your creative passport to wander through new artistic territories.
Entries accepted between August 25 and October 4, 2014
Event dates: 10/21/14 - 11/8/14
For prospectus, go to http://www.onlinejuriedshows.com and scroll down to VALLEY ARTS ALLIANCE.

Open to all 2-dimensional artists whose work includes, but is not limited to, painting, drawing, illustration, mixed-media and photography.
Entry Deadline: 9/15/14
Event Dates: 10/1/14 – 10/24/14
