LAST SUNDAY!

God is moving in the hearts of many people in our congregation! We receive reports weekly from people who attend Sunday worship and feel that God spoke to them or worked within them in a powerful way. God is alive and doing great things! Praise Him! Join us this week as Pastor Chris continues a message series derived directly from Jesus’ Sermon on the Mount! In this timeless message Jesus helps us discover how we can live life to the extreme! Check out the details in this newsletter.

THE CHURCH AS A CARING COMMUNITY

We should always care about others in the community of the church, but that’s not always easy. We may be known as a friendly congregation, but when people are missing from church, we don’t always realize it right away. When people are new, we don’t always feel comfortable reaching out to them. When someone is sick or in the hospital, we don’t always know. When people hurt in other ways and fall away from our worship services and activities, we may not be aware until it’s too late. As a community of believers, we need to figure out how to care about these people and do what we can to reach out to them.

There are no easy answers for this, but let’s start with the following:
  1. Get to know people. Spend time in the café area before worship. Be intentional about building relationships.
  2.  Look around on Sundays and try to take note of new attendees as well as those who are missing. There are always new people and always people absent.
  3. Call or write to people who are missing. If someone is ill or hurting, make sure to tell a pastor – especially Pastor Lisa!
  4. Reach out to new attendees with a smile and a warm handshake! Introduce them to Pastor Chris. He wants to meet them! Try to introduce them to other attendees who may be able to connect with them in friendship.
  5. When people come to the altar – pray with them or at least pray for them through the week. If they have needs and we don’t pray for them, we may not see them next week. God desires for us to pray with each other and to carry one another’s burdens.
  6. If people leave the church because they are upset, hurt or offended, let the staff know about it. Some things can be handled and healed, but nothing can be resolved if we don’t know about the problem. We can’t satisfy or appease everyone, however, we will never know if how much good we can until we try.
  7. Seek the heart of Christ! If we pursue His heart, we will love others in a huge way! We are supposed to love each other the way He loves us.

Pastoral Care

If you know of someone who has been sick or could use a visit, please contact Pastor Lisa and let her know. Thanks in advance!

MAKING DISCIPLES AT COMMUNITY
(A note from Pastor Chris)

Education…. This is a huge word that sends negative vibes to many people. However, the Christian Church in America needs to engage in serious educational efforts. By and large, professing Christians in America have become biblically illiterate and severely lack understanding of biblical principles for life and eternity. Most Christians do not know what they believe, why they believe what they believe and how those things relate to everyday life and faith. Christians have become perfect targets for the devil’s schemes and deception. If he can deceive and disarm professing Christians, he can inflict massive damage. Unfortunately, this is exactly what has happened in the U.S. The educational arm of the church used to be the Sunday School but for many years the Sunday School has been dying. Most churches no longer have a Sunday School as we once knew it. Some churches have sought for new avenues to make disciples and some have totally neglected the issue.

As most of you know, I am all about education and I believe that Community Church should be, too. Christians are being educated through secular organizations, institutions and liberal media outlets rather than the church. This has caused moral collapse, family demise and religious confusion. Let’s change this! As your pastors and church leaders look for ways to make this happen, please pray for God’s guidance and anointing upon them. Community Church can be a place where Christians can grow and become strong members of the body of Christ. Through real discipleship Christians can and will make a real difference in our world!

Thanks for your prayers!
Pastor Chris

NEW MEMBERS ARE WELCOME HERE!

Community Church has received approximately 30 members over the last 18 months!  Nearly 2 members per month! How about you? If you are interested in membership at Community Church, please contact Pastor Lisa and let her know. Also, we know people have come to Christ over the last few months, please let us know if you would like to be baptized!

SERVE AT THE SALVATION ARMY

Wednesdays this summer we are packing lunches at the Salvation Army!  We need your help and this is a great opportunity for us to serve our community.  If you can't serve on Wednesday's, they can use your help on other days as well.  We will meet there at 8:00 am!

JOIN US AS WE CELEBRATE WITH PASTOR MARK LEIST AND HIS FAMILY!

Pastor Mark Leist and his family have been with us over the last year and have been a tremendous blessing to all of us! Pastor Mark has helped in several ways and has served as our Supervising Pastor for Children’s Ministries. He led the way for our new Community Kids initiative. Pastor Mark has officially become the Lead Pastor of our Crown City Wesleyan Church! Some of us knew this was on the horizon, but could not say anything until it became reality. We want to pray for God’s blessing upon Pastor Mark’s ministry and the Crown City congregation. We have planned a proper send-off for Sunday morning, July 27th. Our plan is to honor them and pray for them at the close of the service. Along with this we will have a cake and ice cream reception afterwards. There will be a basket for cards and gifts. The Leist family will assume their role at Crown City on the first Sunday of August.

HELP IMPROVE THE ACOUSTICS IN OUR AUDITORIUM

Significant steps are being taken to improve the sound quality in our main auditorium. You have probably noticed the yellow fiberglass panels along the rails of the second floor. These will not always look as they do now, but they were a trial step for acoustical improvement. After consulting with professional sound engineers, we also have a plan for the bottom floor. We can build sound absorption “boxes” (that should help immensely) at a much lower cost than originally anticipated. We are trying to raise $1,200 to make this happen. If you would like to find out more about this project, please connect with Pastor Zack. If you would like to make a financial contribution, you can make out your check to the church and place “Sound improvement” in the memo.

Better Late Than Never

“On behalf of myself, Liz, and Lilli we would like to thank everyone for such a wonderful first month here at Community!  You all have made us feel very welcomed and we can certainly feel God’s presence moving throughout the church!  We are very excited for what has been happening and what God has in store for us and our ministry here with you all!  I also want to give a very delayed 'Thank You’ for our welcome reception our first week.  It was wonderful and we appreciate all who participated, we also are very appreciative for the encouraging cards and generous gifts! A special thanks to those who prepared everything; it was fantastic!  Can’t wait to see what else God has in store for Community Church!”

SCHOOL SUPPLIES

Reminder! We are starting to collect school supplies for the "Free School Supplies Store" event on August 9th. The goal is to help over 250 kids locally. To help kids outside of our community, we are teaming up with Matthew 25 Ministries (check out their website at www.M25M.org) to provide school supplies to kids in the Appalachian region and Nicaragua.  The more supplies we collect, the more children we can help by giving them a better start for their school year.  For any questions or volunteer opportunities, please see Marcee Richardson, Sheila Donegan, Wendi Mick, or Joy Wagner.

FYI -
Wal-Mart and Staples have started their school supply sales

New Time 9-11am!

All are invited to the next Community Breakfast: August 16th.
Invite your friends & neighbors.
Financial donations and volunteers always welcome!

Trail Life USA News...

Church Family,

Please consider helping us help others.  Troop 148 is now a little over 3 months old and going strong.  We’ve registered 30 boys, had two campouts, done 4 community service projects, retired worn American flags, learned about teamwork and spent the beginning of each meeting learning from the Bible.  We could use your help, and all you have to do is eat barbecue.  If you take the attached flyer to City Barbecue Thursday, July 24th, 25% of your bill will go back to Troop 148.

Thanks so much and as we say in Trail Life:
Walk Worthy,

Dwight D. Newell

Troop 148 leadership will be attending Trail Leader Training in Cincinnati July 25-26 with Chaplain Neil Snelling and Troopmaster Dwight Newell volunteering as instructors.

Flag Retirement Opportunity

The Woodlands Trail boys (the youngest boys in Trail Life USA) are collecting old/worn American Flags.  This will be an ongoing event and a receptacle has been provided in the Lobby. They will be holding retirement ceremonies periodically as the flags accumulate.

Young Adults Community Group

“Are you between the ages of 18 & 35?  Have you been coming to Community for months or possibly years and feel like you don’t know anyone?  Well it’s time to change that!  Pastor Zack is starting a Young Adults Community Group!  We will be meeting @ 630pm on Friday August 1st at 2600 Lancaster Rd, Granville (Kent & Alice Morgan’s house).  This is a great opportunity to bring your unchurched friends!  We will be having a bonfire.  Bring some sort of food and/or drink to share with the group!  Hotdogs and all the fixin’s will be provided.  Bring your families, and get ready to start doing life with each other!”

Wednesday Evenings Study Opportunity
(and future plans)

Wednesday evenings provide an important opportunity for worship, fellowship and spiritual growth here at Community. Currently, Pastor Chris is sharing from God’s word during our Wednesday night study times. He will begin a new study from the Book of James this week.

Our plan for the future is for Wednesday evenings to evolve into a night of discipleship for the entire church body! This will include several study groups and something for the children, too. For more information about this important development, please contact Pastor Lisa (Point Pastor), Marcee Richardson (Program Director) or Pastor Chris (just someone else who knows a little bit about what’s going on!).

What is your gift? And how are you using it in service for God?

But do you know what REALLY stands out to me when I look back on my Christian education at church? The people. My teachers. It was the relationships those teachers and leaders fostered with me that were not only memorable, but what actually shaped me. It was the Gospel of Jesus Christ, lived out in these teachers, that impacted me the most. Sure the lessons were helpful. I’m sure my knowledge of the Bible was furthered because of those carefully planned and intentionally executed lessons. But it was the “lessons” lived out in the life of the teacher that made the difference.” – Jeremy Mavis, Wesleyan Kids

We have been blessed to have some great leaders that are impacting kid’s lives every week, but to continue growing this ministry we need more willing volunteers. If you feel like you can’t do this, “You can. If you have even a mustard seed (meaning tiny bit) of faith, and you are a follower of Jesus, and you like kids and teenagers, we need you to consider joining us in discipling these kids.” – Jeremy Mavis, Wesleyan Kids

Under the C: With many new babies in our congregation we are looking to reopen our minnow nursery. We need volunteers who are willing to commit to holding, rocking, and playing with babies once a month!

KidsTown: We are in need of a teacher to present short bible lessons and activities to our 3-5 year olds once a month. There is also a need for a few people who are just willing to be an extra hand.

C-Crew: Small groups have become an important part of our curriculum. It allows our leaders to make connections and form relationships with a small number of children. We need 3-4 more leaders to be able provide small groups that are relevant to the different ages.

If you have a basic understanding of computers and technology we could use 2-3 people to run the tech once a month. (Training provided)

If you feel like you would be a good match for one of these areas please contact Brittany Dupler duplerb@hotmail.com

Ongoing Community Information.....

ARE YOU NEW TO COMMUNITY??

There are always new attendees here at Community! If you are one of them we want you to know that we are very happy you have decided to worship with us! We encourage you to please introduce yourself to Pastor Chris if you have not done so. He would love to meet you and become acquainted. Also, make sure to contact him or one of the pastors if you have questions or need information. Welcome to Community!

HAVE YOU RECENTLY BECOME A CHRISTIAN?

Many people have recently come to Christ for the first time or have rededicated their lives to Him. If you are one of those people, please share that with Pastor Chris or another staff member. We will not embarrass you in any way, but we want to celebrate with you, pray for you and support you.

PRAYER WALKING WITH PASTOR ZACK

Pastor Zack will be meeting at the church at 7am on Sunday mornings and will being prayer walking the facilities for the upcoming services.  He invites you to join as we partner with the Holy Spirit to begin praying for the upcoming services and lives which will be impacted each week through Community Church.  You don't have to be a "prayer warrior" to take part, simply the desire to see lives changed for the sake of the Gospel."

ENCOURAGE OUR MISSIONARIES

In the hallway outside of Faith Hall you will find a bulletin board that provides information about the missionaries we support here at Community Church. Please take time to go to Wesleyan.org and find the Global Partners link. You will find many of our missionaries listed there. Make the effort to find their contact information and send them an email or text to share your appreciation for their hard work in God’s Kingdom.

COMMUNITY CAFÉ:

This is just a note to thank everyone for their food and monetary donations that help “stock” our café supplies each Sunday morning and Wednesday evening. Although our café is always free to everyone, every little donation is helpful. If you would like to provide donations or help our café ministry in any way, you should connect with Renee Dyer. Watch for more cool changes in our café this fall!

OUR STUDENT MINISTRIES WING

is a secure area on Sunday mornings. Our sole objective is to protect our children and to make sure their parents are confident that they are safe from any potential harm. All across our nation there have been terrible incidents which could have been avoided if children were not put at risk.  Please be understanding of our new security measures and help us care for the children that God has placed in our care.
