New for Fall - "PRISM Wednesdays"

PRISM has several events and meetings planned for the fall.  In addition to the usual monthly meetings, we will have three professional development workshops and a couple of social events.  Since we are increasing the number of PRISM events, attendance policies will be changing to accommodate your busy schedules.  Another big change is that most events and meetings are going to occur on Wednesdays either during community hour or in the evening 6:30 - 8:00 p.m.  We are hoping that with this advanced notice, you can make arrangements to avoid signing up for any conflicting classes or work schedules.  Please see Ed or Fran in the PRISM office if you have a conflict during either of those Wednesday time slots so that we can help you figure it out.

Best Wishes, PRISM Graduates!

If you are a PRISM student who just graduated this past spring, it’s time for us to say good-bye to you as a student and wish you well in all your future endeavors!  We still want to hear from you though and you will continue to hear from us!  After this, you will be moved to our alumni lists, where you will continue to receive the PRISM newsletter, but you will no longer get student-related emails about PRISM news, procedures, and events.   Please like us on Facebook if you’d like to stay in touch or connect to us on Linked In!  Don’t forget to let us know when you have good news.  So we don’t say good-bye, but instead, “until we meet again!”

Meet the New Class of PRISM Students!

PRISM welcomes the following students officially to the program: Ashley Brown, Steven Cortes, Erica Klafehn, Collen McNamara, Roshanna Paulsingh, Tonya Phoenix, David Rodriguez, Stephanie Sanchez, Desiree Williams, and Yuan Zhuo Zhang.   After having participated in a three-day workshop this past June, these ten students are eligible to start working with a PRISM mentor and to apply for PRISM funding by submitting a timely research proposal each semester.  If you are one of these new students and you need help to determine a suitable lab or mentor, please email prism or visit the PRISM office to speak with Ed or Fran.

Revisions to PRISM Research Proposal Guidelines

This fall we will be rolling out a few changes to our Proposal Guidelines. You can preview the new guidelines here on our website. Don’t worry...if you are a returning student, you can still copy and paste much of it from your previously submitted one, but there are now sections that will need to be updated more closely every term.   If you don't comply, you may be denied funding.  Ed will be hosting a Proposal Writing Workshop for new PRISM students on September 3 during community hour in the PRISM office. Proposals for fall funding are due September 24.

PRISM Hosts Lab "Shadows"

PRISM opened its doors this summer to host promising prospective students as lab "shadows."  We thank the labs and students of Dr. Korobkova, Dr. Cheng, and Dr. Diaczuk for hosting!  More pictures and details from this event are also available here on the website.

Alumni Spotlight -
                Christopher Pedigo

We have a great update on Christopher Pedigo, PRISM alumnus '09!  It's been a great year for Christopher who is pursuing his PhD at the Miller College of Medicine at the University of Miami.  Most notably, he was awarded an American Heart Association Fellowship and he is co-first author on an article published in the Journal of the American Society of Nephrology.  For more information about Christopher's accomplishments and his inspiring journey since graduating PRISM, visit the PRISM website!
