Next Steps
July 2014

Dear Family and Friends,

I have been this side of the Atlantic Ocean for two months.   I wanted to catch everyone up on where I am now and what I am planning.  Before I landed in the U.S. I attended the Christian Medical and Dental Association international convention in Greece.  It was a great time of meeting other medical missionaries, learning more tropical medicine, and worshiping together.
Since I've been back I completed my requirements for my pastoral license and now am a license to preach credentialed minister with the Assemblies of God.  I am also recommended by the Michigan District to apply for full time missionary status with the Assemblies of God.  My application is being processed at the national office and I hope to interview and be fully appointed this October.  In the meantime, I started working part time in my pediatric office in Michigan.  This will help me keep up my medical skills, reconnect with my patients here and prepare for my medical board recertification in 2016.
I am so grateful for everyone's prayers and financial support this year.  If you are wondering what to do as I transition from missionary associate to fully appointed missionary, there are a few options.  I still have my same account with AGWM.  Any money contributed now until I leave for the field stays in my account and accumulates.  This means I don't have to start itineration with $0.  Others may choose to stop and then restart as I get closer to leaving for the field (in1.5 years or so, Lord willing).  Thank you for your sacrifice and for choosing to be a part of the team ministering to our brothers and sisters in Zambia.  I look forward to sharing my stories and pictures with all of you.  Feel free to contact me to set up a time to hear about God's work in Zambia.

His blessed servant,

Heather Marten, MD
