The Request Line

Our customer Ken came in saying he kept snapping couplings and needed to find a better solution. He was coupling a 25mm shaft with a 1” shaft in a straight line where the out-put power was too much so needed a better transmission solution. He had the option of spacing the shafts apart however, which would give the freedom to use a pulley arrangement instead of a coupling. He also wanted to achieve a 3:1 reduction ratio.
 
So, using a double pulley and belt set up to achieve the 3:1 ratio, we opted for the modern Mi-Lock pulleys which don’t require boring or keying. Using 2 x 200mm pulleys, a retaining kit and a 1” bush, we created a double pulley to suit the 1” driver shaft. Then we added 2 x 71mm pulleys, a retaining kit and a 25mm bush to create the other duplex pulley to suit the 25mm driven shaft.

I knew from Ken that space would be quite limited between shafts so we opted for relatively short belts and used 2 x B33 Gates Hi-Power II belts. Ken installed the new set-up and has reported back that the problem is solved! Pictured above is arrangement assembled with pulleys, retaining kits, bushes and belts.

Regular readers of our blog ‘Exhaust Pipe Dreams’ will know that I like to keep my eye on classic cars for sale around the World. This month I’ve spied an incredibly preserved EK Holden station wagon which is up for auction so have included it with other posts, articles and videos on the blog. Also this month I’ve posted a video of Mini’s sleek new convertible by famed Italian coachbuilder Touring Superleggera, the same coachbuilder behind the Aston Martin DB5.

Clarinda Street Connections

News from A.A.Blatch H.Q.

Well, how time flies. Susie and Allan have now been in Parkes and working at A.A.Blatch for over a year! Another anniversary to mark is A.A.Blatch being at its current location at 155 Clarinda Street for 30 years. A.A.Blatch began in Hill Street in 1952 before moving to 143 Clarinda St in 1963. Then in 1984, Allan Snr. and Warren opened our current premises a few doors up at 155 Clarinda St.

In other facts and figures, Warren recently turned 70 and Susie recently turned 30 so together they’ve made a century. Above is a shot of our newest recruit, Wilhelmina, on a very rare occasion when she wasn’t screaming the house down.
