Unless you're new to Scrap Girls, you probably already know that "ScrapSimple" is the brand name we've given to our whole line of our grayscale template products. These products are great for creating your very own customized embellishments, word art, papers, and more.

What's less obvious, though, is what's so "simple" about ScrapSimple, since adding color to a grayscale product requires an extra step. Well, today we want to show you just how easy it is to take these products and modify or change them to be whatever you want. Our ScrapSimple Embellishments, for example, can be colored to match a background paper or kit, a photo you're using, or any inspiring color palette on the Internet in places like Pinterest or Adobe Kuler.

Theme: Color Palettes and Embellishment Templates
Today, our Creative Team will show you how they used a color palette to color a ScrapSimple Embellishment Template. In each of these examples, our gals were inspired by colors they found elsewhere, and through the magic of Photoshop, they were easily able to apply those colors to their embellishments. As you'll see, this is also a great way to use a themed kit or the specific colors in a kit for many more purposes.

If this is your first time to play with ScrapSimple templates, here's an easy tip for coloring them after you've assembled a color swatch to pull from: Use the Eyedropper tool to grab the color, then use a color overlay to add it to your template. Play with the Blending modes until you are happy with the results! Yes, it really is that easy!
I’ve discovered one of the best ways to increase the versatility of my scrapbooking supplies is to make a color swatch from my collections, then apply those colors to my stash of ScrapSimple supplies. For this layout, I started by choosing the heavily-patterned lime-green paper from Laura Louie’s Spare Me Collection Biggie (one of my favorites!) to use as my background.
Then, using Laura’s collection, I ran ScrapSimple Tools - Actions: Color Swatch 6301 by Syndee Nuckles to create my color swatch. After running the action, I saved the swatch and then used those colors with my ScrapSimple templates to add embellishments, word art, and papers to complete my layout. Having the color swatch made quick work of coloring the cupcake embellishments from Laura’s ScrapSimple Embellishment Templates: Sweet Tooth and Katherine Weaver’s word art from Brush Set: Say It – Birthday. Finally, I used the color swatch as an embellishment to finish up my layout! - Melanie Cockshott

When I color my ScrapSimple Embellishments I like that I get to decide what to use on each one. Sometimes I like to clip a paper to an embellishment, sometimes I use a Style, but when I use a color overlay – my favorite way – I always get the results I want. I enjoy playing with the blending modes, and sometimes even use a gradient overlay – and almost always I duplicate the layer and try a different blending mode on that layer. The results are often surprising, and always a good surprise.
I love working with color. I usually take colors from the photo, but this particular photo had very few colors – so I took the green in the grass, and the blue from the sky and added some lovely bright colors for the flowers, using the color wheel's complementary, analogous, and triad colors.

On the flower petals I used a gradient overlay, and made it the colors I wanted. Then I used the blend mode "Overlay", and duplicated the layer to brightened it up. I also duplicated the flower and erased the petals so that I could color the center of the flower separately, and used the blend mode "Hard Light" for the brighter yellow. - Andrea Rose Hutton

I love ScrapSimple Embellishments because I can use them with any collection. All I need to do is to add some colour to them. Quite a few of Scrap Girls collections come with a colour swatch, which makes it easy to pick coordinating colours for your ScrapSimple Embellishments. It was the colour swatch from the Merrydale Collection (a Christmas themed kit) that I used to help me colourise the Embellishments I picked for this summertime layout.              - Valerie Tuffrey
