Exciting transformations at Apanaki Designs.....

Teaching my art practices and so much more

I have missed you all so much, and want to apologize for being out of contact. So many exciting and amazing things have been happening and literally transforming my passion into a living and breathing entity.
So let me bring you up to speed. 2014 has started off in March with opportunity to teach my art practice to my peers at Toronto East General Hospital Mental Health Clinic Drop-In Art Class. I realized I love teaching! To share my art practice with my peers, who also struggle with mental illness was just amazing. I was also given a chance to facilitate a workshop in the introduction of Textile Art at Workman Arts, the course was entitled African Assemblage.I was so proud of my students making my technique and literally made it their own in the art installations at the Spring/Summer Showcase.
I was able to add to the local flavor in Leslieville, which has a personality all on it own, it was great to share my art in the hood. March -
Rebellion Gallery opening, with A Kaleidoscope of Art Exhibition.
April -
Project Gallery's: Salon Show the exhibition style was an ode to Academie desBeaux-Arts and held in the Louvre, France in 1667. For the month of July my artwork is currently showcased at Ed's Real Scoops, where you can come of the ice cream and stay for the art.
As an alumni of
Rise Asset Development, I was given the opportunity to be one of the keynote speakers for the Muslim Women's Entrepreneurs Small Business event held by Mississauga MPP Dipika Damerla, It was great sharing my story of starting my business and the challenges I face as a single mother, it was humbling and insightful.
Tropicana Community Services 21st Annual Caribbean Gala's Silent auction in June,  was the perfect opportunity to give back to an organization that has been making strides in the black community.
Ori Dreams of Home, was front and center to help with their fundraising efforts.
(WANT) Women Art's Network Toronto Gallery All Night Arts Market - IN TRANSIT as part of Nuit Rose for World Pride was the perfect venue to launch The Sacred Love Movement and Sacred Sexuality The Body Temple exhibition coming up on September 23rd 2014 at the Beaver Hall Gallery.
In the spirit of transformation,
Brockton Collective's,  Art Last, curated by by Jimmy Chiale, was a celebration of a space that has always been on the pulse of Toronto art scene. It is now an online gallery, giving virtual support to upcoming and emerging hipster artists.
I know it is a bit of a mouthful but I am glad we had the chance to catch up. Look forward to new and exciting happenings with Apanaki Designs!

The Sacred Love Movement  has begun and it is within all of us.We have forgotten that love in all its forms is a sacred act. The art of loving-kindness is an acknowledgement of the Creator in us all. So we are starting a movement to remind us about what we may have forgotten as we are assailed on a daily basis  by the media to believe the exact opposite, that nothing is sacred or to do with love.
We need your help! Look out for our Kickstarter Campaign - The Sacred Love Movement, so we can start the dialogue and affect positive change. Join Anja Sagan and myself in our exhibition Sacred Sexuality The Body Temple, a visual representation of love of the body, spirit and ourselves, Opening Night By Invitation Only - Tuesday 23nd September 23rd, 2014 at the Beaver Hall Gallery, 7 pm to 10 pm. And will be showcased until the September 30th, gallery hours to be announced.
I have the honor and a privilege to be the Chairman of the Board of Women Arts Network Toronto (WANT). To be able to work with the amazing founder Michelle Van Looy and and to continue the legacy of the late Wendy Babcock.

"WANT (formerly That’s Women’s Work Arts Network) provides whole-life supports for self-identifying women in the arts through an art gallery setting.  As a non-profit, we serve our artists above and beyond the gallery. We know that women artists experience pay inequities and struggles to earn a living wage in both their art practices and their support jobs.  We also understand that these inequities can directly affect housing, food security, education, transportation, health and wellness. And we are here to support you with all of those! We offer extensive resources to community services and agencies within the city of Toronto. We also strive for our artists to earn a living wage from their works."
