Partnership News Update

We would really appreciate you taking the time to fill in our survey and we hope it will lead to you getting more out of being involved in the National LGB&T Partnership.  We would like to incorporate your knowledge and experience to better the lives of LGB&T communities.   The LGB&T Partnership now targets its work around workstreams, with a focus on specific pieces of work we think will have real benefit for LGB&T communities and throughout the year we will bring you updates on each of these.   Each workstream is identifying within its work programme how it will engage with stakeholders, and as part of this process we are asking you, our stakeholders, to identify any of the workstreams that you would like to participate in.

Updates from Department of Health

New approach to care for the dying published

A new approach to caring for dying people based on the needs and wishes of the person and those close to them has been launched.

It takes the form of five new Priorities for Care which succeed the Liverpool Care Pathway (LCP) as the new basis for caring for someone at the end of their life.  It recognises that in many cases, enabling the individual to plan for death should start well before a person reaches the end of their life and should be an integral part of personalised and proactive care.

The Autism Strategy

The first ever strategy for adults with autism in England was published in 2010 with a commitment to review this strategy three years later.

Last year, the Government asked for feedback from adults with autism, parents, carers and professionals about how well the 2010 strategy had been implemented so far.

The new strategy - Think Autism - was published in April 2014. This updated strategy states that all of the existing recommendations and duties from the 2010 strategy still apply to local authorities and NHS bodies.

Research

Research Into Transgender Friendly GP's by Transfigurations

Coming out as transgender can be the most stressful thing that a person ever does in their life - and if they meet up with an uncaring/obstructive GP it can lead to an increased low self esteem and despair - which can often result in self harm or even an attempt at ending their own life.

You can help if you have a sympathetic GP for if you have one that is trans friendly and we can publish that in out database it will mean that there might be a sympathetic GP in someone's area where they can go and know that they can get help - and your action in providing the details of a sympathetic GP could therefore save somebody's life
