The Big Yellow...
August 2

National Mustard Day is less than two weeks away and the Confidential Condiment Counselors at the Mustard Museum are busy polishing the nickels and tightening the screws. The official NMD2014 t-shirts will be here this Friday so we will be sending them out on Monday (July 28) -- in time for Mustard Day arrival.  Order your t-shirt now (NMD014). Our Official Sweet Hot Stone Ground 2014 Mustard Day Mustard is ready to ship now (NMDMUS).

For the "official" scoop, download the Mustard Day Press Release here.
Happy B-day Mrs. Mustard!

Hints for Mustard Day in Middleton

Like the rest of Wisconsin (and much of the country), Middleton has been plagued by road construction this summer. The City Administrator (more about that fiendish character below) promises that the streets near the National Mustard Museum will be clear and ready for the celebration. Parking, however, will not be easy. We suggest that you come early, find whatever space you can, and enjoy the brisk walk to the intersection of Hubbard Avenue and Parmenter Street.

If you are coming from out of town and need a place to stay, we recommend the nearby Marriott (608-831-2000), Hilton Garden Inn (608-831-2220), or Staybridge (608-664-5888).

But what if you can't come to Middleton for Mustard Day???

Celebrate Anywhere

The first rule of Mustard Day is this: EAT MUSTARD.  We are giving away 4,000 Oscar Mayer Hot Dogs (thanks, Oscar!) but encouraging donations that will be shared by the nonprofit National Mustard Museum and LOV Dane, a local grass roots organization that brings together individuals with disabilities, their families, and the community to create fulfilling community centered lives for everyone. The hot dogs are "free" but only when slathered with mustard. Ketchup is available for a $10 fine, with proceeds going to our nonprofit groups.

You could do the same. Pick an organization you'd like to help and serve hot dogs with donations going to that organization. Serve ketchup for a $10 "fine" and use our "warning" sign. It's all in the spirit of fun and community. : )

Culver's is mixing up a batch of Frozen Mustard Custard, the traditional summertime treat at National Mustard Day. You can come pretty close at home by softening some vanilla ice cream and swirling in a ripple of Slimm & Nunne Sweet & Nicely Hot Mustard (SLN100) or 3 Monkeys Sweet & Spicy Mustard (TMM100). Refreeze and share.

Mustard in the Clouds

"So what else is there to do in Middleton after we've seen the Mustard Museum?" We hear that a lot. We have great restaurants, there's the ceremonial changing of the guard at the feed mill, and you can fly. In a 1929 open cockpit D-25 biplane.

That's what the Curator and Middleton City Administrator Mike Davis did last Friday. WOW! Gliding low over Middleton and Madison was awesome.
Biplane

We took off from a grass runway at the Middleton Airport (Morey Field), dipped over the Mustard Museum, caught a bird's eye view of Camp Randall Stadium, and soared over the luscious farm fields of Dane County.
Ted Davis is the pilot and we can't say enough about the experience of an open cockpit flight. For more info, go to www.biplaneridesofamerica.com. Or call Ted at 608-751-8000. He won't be flying on Mustard Day but will offer flights throughout the summer, until September 28.

Volunteer for NMD14!

Volunteers Needed

For National Mustard Day and the day after.  There's plenty of work to do, from setting up, helping out with games, tearing down, and the day after, too. Fill out our Volunteer Signup form online, or email Mrs. Mustard.  Work for 4 hours and get a free super shirt. What a deal!

We also welcome your financial support. As little as $42 gets you into the program. Our Molybdenum Level of Sponsorship is worth its weight in -- well, molybdenum (MD42).
