Congratulations to Director Andrew Samwick for completing twenty years of teaching at Dartmouth and for providing ten years of leadership to the Rockefeller Center as of July, 2014! Under his guidance, the Rockefeller Center has witnessed the growth of its curricular and co-curricular programs and renewed its commitment to Dartmouth's mission to educate the most promising students and prepare them for a lifetime of learning and responsible leadership.

A Popular Panel on Students' Rights

On July 17th, the Rockefeller Center hosted a panel discussion on student rights. The panelists, D. Chris McLaughlin ’81, Cheshire County Attorney; George Ostler ’77, a criminal defense attorney; Leah A. Plunkett, Director of Academic Success and Associate Professor of Legal Skills at the University of New Hampshire School of Law; and Judith R. Sizer, a higher education attorney who served as General Counsel for Brandeis University, discussed issues such as a right to privacy and the balance between due process and the need to aggressively investigate misconduct at universities. As noted in The Dartmouth's coverage of the panel, students in attendance were particularly interested in the panelists' take on their digital privacy in university settings.

Fourth Amendment Talk by Professor Sargent for Constitution Day
|

This coming Wednesday, September 17th, marks Constitution Day, the date on which the document was ratified at the Constitutional Convention in 1787. In celebration, Jennifer Sargent, a Visiting Associate Professor of Writing at Dartmouth College, faculty member at the National Judicial College, and a former District Court Judge in New Hampshire will be giving a lecture on Thursday, September 18th from 4:30 to 5:30 pm in Rockefeller 003 entitled, “Hey, You Can’t Just Look in There: Current Fourth Amendment Issues Regarding Cell Phone and Email Privacy after Riley v. California (2014).†In her lecture, Professor Sargent will discuss the scope of the Fourth Amendment’s privacy law as it applies to digital technology and information.

Young African Leaders Initiative
at the Rockefeller Center

In April of 2013, President Obama announced the creation of the Young African Leaders Initiative, or YALI, during his visit to Africa. This summer, the program brought more than 500 young African leaders to twenty US schools for six weeks. Twenty-five of the YALI fellows came to Dartmouth where they participated in six leadership seminars at the Rockefeller Center. Visit our online recaps of each session here.

Rockefeller-funded Internships
with an Attorney General and More

The Rockefeller Center helps students find, fund, and prepare for a leave-term internship experience in public policy research, public policy analysis, issue evaluation, or activities which help shape and determine public policy. Rockefeller Center-funded interns reflected on their experiences this summer through our Notes from the Field series. Cameron Hunter '15 spent his summer working in the Office of the Massachusetts Attorney General where he immediately began investigating complaints and assisting with cases.

of the First-Year Fellows Program

This summer, the Rockefeller Center recognized the valuable contributions provided by its alumni mentors to participants in the First-Year Fellows program. The First-Year Fellows program provides first-year students with the opportunity to meaningfully engage in public policy early in their Dartmouth career. The Rockefeller Center extends a heart-felt thanks to each and every mentor for their role in developing the next generation of leaders.
