Half Moon

Over the summer months, we're delighted to be working in partnership with two adult theatre companies, both presenting work which reflects the diverse community in which Half Moon sits. It's all part of our commitment to engaging with our local neighbourhood.

But don't worry, if neither of these productions are up your street, then we're currently preparing a packed season full of fabulous family theatre from late-September, which we'll be announcing in August. Watch this space!

Few people today know there was once a Chinatown in London's East End....

This promenade production at the historic Limehouse Town Hall will take you into the heart of London's original Chinatown, exploding the lurid myths of opium dens and sinister Chinese gangs, to reveal a place that was for generations of people, simply home.

5 stars "An especially powerful example of the generation-spanning magic at play in this masterpiece of evocative historical storytelling." TheUpcoming.co.uk

"An undeniably interesting and enlightening show. Gary Merry and Kumiko Mendl's production has lots of charm too, due in no small part to the strong ensemble cast. The Last Days of Limehouse reminds us how quickly and ruthlessly history can overwrite itself."  Time Out

The Royal Duchess Superstore
Tuesday 9 - Sunday 21 September 8pm. Sundays 5pm.
Half Moon Theatre, 43 White Horse Road, London E1 0ND

Bracing and honest, The Royal Duchess Superstore tells the story of Terry, recently returned to East London following a long stretch in prison, highlighting the changes that have taken place in his local area and Terry’s struggles to cope with his new environment, typified by the fate of his favourite pub, the Royal Duchess, which has become a corner shop.

In this tale of old East End wide boys and new school Bangla boy hustlers, Terry will be played by Mark Wingett, known for his roles in Quadrophenia, EastEnders and The Bill, in which he played PC Jim Carver for over a decade.

Please note this is an adult show and only suitable for ages 18+.
