It's been another amazing year at ODO, and I want to thank all of you who contributed to our work and helped fund our organization in 2014. On Tuesday, Dec. 2, I myself received many emails on what is being called "Giving Tuesday." Just about every non-profit we have ever worked with sent an email that day. I'm not sure who came up with this new "holiday tradition," but, frankly, we didn't participate. We are Open Doors Organization, and our ability to accept donations at anytime keeps our doors always open. So if you missed ODO on "Giving Tuesday," it's never too late. You can give to us on Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, etc. by visiting our website.

ODO Kicks Off CRO Training for BA
Open Doors Organization is now conducting Initial Complaints Resolution Official (CRO) classroom training for British Airways. Three classes were held in December in Chicago and New York with more to come in the new year at additional US airports served by BA. We appreciate this great opportunity, and the team members we're meeting are exceptional.
United Hosts Awareness
Event in Mexico City
As part of its diversity program, United Airlines includes training on disability inclusion during October’s National Disability Employment Awareness Month. This year, they also celebrated International Day of People with Disabilities by providing training in Mexico City. Trainers included United’s Accessibility Coordinator, Rosalie Crabbe, two members of their Accessible Travel Advisory Board (Pat Pound and Auturo Jackson) along with Tammy Kroyer, a United employee who has a child with a disability. Attendees included airport personnel, ground services, groups sales, and reservationists.
They were very pleased to have the training and the opportunity to ask questions. Congratulations to United as it is always exciting to see disability integrated into diversity programs. (Contributed by Pat Pound, ODO Consultant).
Your Disability Is Not My Problem
This is the attention-getting title of a recent blog in the Huffington Post by Lianne Mandelbaum, founder of The No Nut Traveler. In it she describes how her own awareness of the needs of travelers with other types of disabilities was raised during ODO's Universal Access in Airports event this October. She concludes by noting that "When we support change that widens ramps, opens doors, assists those with vision or hearing challenged, or helps protect those who may have life-threatening food allergies, we may someday, in fact, actually be assisting our parents, our children or even ourselves. We all win when we look out for one another." Great blog, Lianne!
