RIGHT TO BE FREE
Rescue        Rehabilitate      Reintegrate

Holiday Greetings

As 2014 draws to a close, Right To Be Free would like to take this opportunity to extend our gratitude and thanks to our friends for their loyal support this year. This year the world celebrated the 25th anniversary of the Convention of the Rights of the Child, the most widely ratified international human rights treaty, and honored Nobel Peace Prize recipients Kailash Satyarthi and Malala Yousafzay for their work against the suppression of chlidren and their right to an education. Right To Be Free shares the global commitment to advance children's rights and our success gives us the optimism and determination to rescue more children, place them in schools and guide their families on a path of financial security. This holiday season, we extend our heartfelt thanks for all that you have helped us accomplish this year. Thanks to you, we have given more children a precious gift - their freedom. Best wishes for joyous holidays and a New Year filled with peace and happiness.

Reintegration Update

RTBF/Africa rescued 21 enslaved children (four girls and 17 boys) from the Kpando region of Lake Volta this year. Twelve of the children have been reunited with their families, two are orphans and seven do not have family able to care for them. ALL of the children, except for one young boy named Senyo, are attending school, many for the first time. Eleven children are attending the Don Bosco school in Suyani. In most cases, RTBF pays for their school fees and uniforms. The nine children without families are supported by RTBF. Workshops are conducted for families to educate them about private enterprise and micro-loans are granted to support  business opportunities.

If you would like to sponsor a child for $20/month, please contact Eric Peasah or Lori Dillon. You will receive photos and information about the children available for sponsorship. Thank you in advance for your consideration of providing this valuable assistance to a rescued child.
Akosua was rescued earlier this year. The left photo was taken before she was rescued. The right photo was taken at the Rehabilitation Center. She is no longer an enslaved child whose dreams and future have been taken away forever. Her beaming smile reflects hope, joy and a promising future because she is free and can go to school.

Educational Outreach

An important component of our mission is educational outreach. Our programs raise awareness of human trafficking through presentations to civic and trade organizations, schools, churches, community and private groups. This fall, Eric Peasah traveled to the U.S. visiting many cities, including Chicago, Minneapolis and San Francisco. Lori Dillon and Eric gave presentations to many groups including the Organization for Women in International Trade, Northwestern University Conference on Human Rights, and Rotary Clubs. More details about Eric's travels  and presentations will be shared in future newsletters.

Senyo Surgery - Matching Gift

Senyo is a young boy, about eleven years old, that was featured in our last newsletter. Due to the crippling injuries he sustained while working on Lake Volta, he is unable to walk without assistance and requires spine reconstruction surgery. We continue to raise funds for his medical expenses so his dream of walking and attending school will come true. Thanks to a loyal and generous donor, all donations for Senyo this month through January 30, 2015, will be matched up to $500. If you would like to help Senyo walk again, your gift will have twice the impact.
