Learning to lead at the Air Cadet’s camp

Air Cadets from Devon & Somerset Wing of the Air Training Corps have recently returned from their half-term camp known as Exercise Phoenix Griffin. The cadets and volunteer adult staff deployed to Swynnerton Camp in Staffordshire for a week’s training.

Activities included shooting, first aid training, initiative and military skills. The cadets also received a visit from the RAF Motivational and Leadership Team taking part in practical exercises designed to develop their skills. They were also able to practice their first aid in realistic casualty scenarios.  Find out more.

Royal Wessex Yeomanry see success at the Loriner’s Combined Services Cup


Another good day for the Reserve Forces Equitation teams and the Reserves. The Reserve Forces’ Association Equitation Committee (RFAEC) entered an Army Reserves team, as did the Royal Wessex Yeomanry (RWxY), for the Loriner’s Combined Services Cup run at the Coxwell Rogers Military Chase on Sunday 26 October 2014 at Foxcote in the Cotswolds. Saltash Employers Win Award for Support to Reserves

A Silver Level Employer Recognition Scheme Award has been presented to China Fleet Country Club, in recognition of the support they give to members of the Reserves and Cadet Forces.

 

Dean Bennett, the General Manager of the resort in Saltash, was presented with the award at the Cornwall Lord Lieutenants Award Ceremony which took place in the Great Hall at Truro’s Alverton Hotel. Find out more.

Atkins reinforces commitment to Armed Forces through signing of corporate covenant

Design, engineering and project management consultancy Atkins has today announced that it has signed the Corporate Covenant, a voluntary pledge made by organisations that wish to demonstrate their support for the Armed Forces community.

Wiltshire Army Cadet awarded St John Ambulance First Aider of the Year

Army Cadet Jessica Shepherd, who came to the rescue of her injured elderly neighbour, has been presented with St John Ambulance First Aider of the Year by the Lord Lieutenant of Wiltshire at ceremonies in Devizes.
 
The 15-year-old Trowbridge Army Cadet was able to put her first aid skills into practice when helping 81-year-old neighbour Patricia Giles, who had fallen, when she found her on her walk home from school.
 
Jessica put to use the skills she had learnt as a Cadet, preventing other people moving the injured woman, Find out more.
 

Army Reserves hit the right target

Army Reserves from The Royal Wessex Yeomanry (RWxY) have been fixing their sights and demonstrating their growing capability to deliver support to the UK’s Rapid Reaction Force, by taking part in a Live Firing Exercise on the Lulworth Ranges in Dorset.
 
Integrated with Regular subject matter experts, the Challenger 2 (CR2) Main Battle Tanks taking part have been manned entirely by Reserve crews from Squadrons based in Dorset, Devon, Wiltshire and Gloucestershire.  Read more.
