Aerospace is an emerging industry cluster in South Carolina, but one that holds the promise of significant and increasing economic impact. In 2014, the SC Council on Competitiveness entered a partnership agreement with the SC Department of Commerce to develop and strengthen the cluster. 

I sat down with our Director of Aerospace Initiatives, Deborah Cameron, to discuss her work so far. She recapped an eventful year and gave a preview of what’s next.

Q:  How do you define and measure success?

"A couple of critical things we will monitor are the number of aerospace firms and increases in employment.  We are also researching how we are competing with other states in the Southeast so that we can build and maintain a competitive edge..."

iTs|SC Industry Cluster Graduates First Class of Leadership Insurance

 


iTs|SC, Columbia's Insurance Technology and Services cluster graduated eight participants from its first annual Leadership Insurance program in November. The program was designed for up-and-comers of the local insurance tech and services industry, attracting some of the local industry's highest potential employees. Participants represented a range in age and experience, and came from five different companies from around the Midlands.

"Leadership Insurance 2014 provided me the perfect opportunity to network with other insurance professionals in the Midlands, learn more about their organizations and about the broader insurance industry," said Jason Zier of Colonial Life, a 2014 Leadership Insurance graduate. "It was definitely time well invested!"

TransformSC to Host Spring Conference March 9th

Agenda Tailored for Business Leaders, Legislators and Educators


TransformSC will be hosting its spring conference on March 9th at the Columbia Metropolitan Convention Center.  This year's agenda includes specialized tracks for business leaders, educators and policy makers.  Participants will hear about early results in TransformSC Schools and learn about tools to build a culture of innovation in schools and communities.  Keynote speakers Dr. Jeff Borden and Diana Laufenberg will speak on creating personalized classrooms and "Education 3.0."    The draft schedule and registration information is now available on the Council's website.

2015 Manufacturing Conference and Expo
