BIG NAMES ARRIVE IN HOLY WOOD.  - by Sacharissa Cripslock

Colin Smythe Starring As: “Raconteur and Bon Vivant”

Australian Discworld Convention is pleased to announce that Colin Smythe will be attending Nullus Anxietas V!

Colin Smythe started his publishing company, Colin Smythe Ltd, in 1966. He has been part of Terry Pratchett’s novel-writing career from the beginning: he published Terry’s first five novels, including the first two Discworld books, and became Terry’s agent in 1987.

Colin is also the agent for the literary estates of a number of Irish authors, including George Moore, Lady Gregory, and Oliver St John Gogarty. His company has specialised in publishing 19th and 20th Century Irish literature and criticism, and Irish myths and folklore, as well as books on heraldry and orders of knighthood, fly-fishing, and parapsychology. Colin himself has written and edited various books, chiefly about Lady Gregory. In 1998, he received an honourary Doctorate of Laws from the University of Dublin, for his services to Irish literature.

This is a rare opportunity to meet with a luminary from the heart of the Discworld, and we are very happy to welcome Colin to Nullus Anxietas V!

Rob Wilkins Starring As: “International Man of Mystery”

Rob Wilkins has graciously agreed to appear Virtually at Nullus Anxietas V!*

Rob is Terry’s business manager, as well as organiser-of-stuff, manuscript reader-outer, and Loyal Friend. He has been working with Terry for about seventeen years now, and in that time together they have made three documentaries, wrangled with The Words of over twenty books, travelled all over the world, and done a number of other things that we can’t talk about (and he can’t either**). He knows where the bodies are buried, because he put most of them there himself. What his accents lack in geographical precision they make up for in enthusiasm. He was the original wearer of THE PAJAMAS*** and has also inspired fan art in the form of a tiny version of himself. Narrativia was his idea: be sure to thank him.

* Rest assured that our finest Persuaders are working hard to tempt Rob to visit Fourecks, but presently only Virtual Attendance is confirmed.

**  Not until he’s got a few drinks into him, at least.

*** Sold at the NAIII Charity Auction for $1125

GIVING SOMETHING BACK...OOK!

The Convention Committee of Nullus Anxietas V are very happy to announce the secondary charity to benefit from the proceeds of our Charity Auction: Orangutan Foundation International Australia (OFIA).

Through The Orangutan Legacy Forest project, OFIA aims to purchase, protect and replant forest habitat in Borneo that is vital to the orang-utan’s survival, creating a large, protected and interconnected orangutan habitat ‘sanctuary’,  for the release of rehabilitated orangutans from the Care Centre.

OFI envisions a province-wide system of contiguous, biologically intact nature reserves, parks, corridors, and protected areas, which together will help provide essential habitat to ensure the long-term conservation of the endangered orangutan in the region.

For the orangutans currently being cared for by OFI, the Orangutan Legacy Forest truly is ‘the promised land.’ Each month more orangutans arrive at the Care Centre where they enter OFI’s rehabilitation program.

Yet with so little protected forest remaining, and with many national parks off limits to ex-captive
animals, this initiative offers a real and tangible future for those animals once they are ready to return to the wild.

ASK SACHA:  EVERYTHING YOU EVER WANTED TO KNOW ABOUT NAV BUT WERE TOO AFRAID TO ASK...

Dear Sacharissa,
I have never been to an Australian Discworld Convention before...How can I have the most fun possible?
Thanks,
Nervous Newbie.

Dear Nervous Newbie,

Fun! Games! Excitement! Quiet contemplation! It's all available for you at Nullus Anxietas V.

My first suggestion is: Make Sure You Have A Ticket!  You'll find it remarkably hard to enjoy the Wonder that is NAV without an Attending Membership.

My second suggestion is to get familiar with the Programme of Events - there are plenty of things on during the three-day festivities and this will give you some hints as to what you might enjoy.

My final suggestion is to Get Involved!  Join a Guild! Volunteer! Get together a performance for The XXXX Factor!  Join the forums and start chatting to your fellow Con-Goers.    You'll find that Fourecksians in general and Discworld fans in particular are a very convivial bunch, and you'll be welcomed with open arms.

See you in April, (Not-so) Nervous (now).

Hugs and Kisses,
Sacharissa Cripslock
