Showcasing the beauty of the human spirit - in mid air - around the world

TONIA MATTU  ...

From:
I'm a progression of a Cowichan Valley girl, Vancouver early 20's, New York City until 30, and Gastown today. I've also had a stint in Sydney, Australia and many trips and stays around the world. So I guess I consider the globe as where I live, and I am grounded with a small town girl's heart.

Work: I have worked in and out of media sales for years while developing my experience and passion for emotional intelligence and human connection. I most recently founded YUOLOGY, the study of you. Inspiring people to study themselves to create their life story - in a way that best matches them. We explore the topic of connection and how being connected with yourself builds clarity and confidence in who we are, and empowers us to connect with others in meaningful ways.

Q: What inspires you to jump for joy?
A:
Jumping for joy is what inspired me! I just love the concept of expressing joy through a joyful jump. It's pretty hard not to smile and feel good when you jump up and let yourself 'go' for a moment. It's a forced release of thinking followed by a natural free feeling. It's also a unique expression of YOU with no real control, which I quite like. It's vulnerable.

Q. Your experience doing jumping photos?
A:
FUN! We did the shoot in the Vancouver East side and I have never seen so many smiles in that area! People were cheering me on, stopping to give me tips (it took me awhile to get good air) and my favorite was an elderly Asian woman who stopped for quite some time to admire the joy that was happening on the otherwise 'troubled' block. She was clapping her little hands and kept saying "beautiful." I think this brought tears to both my and Eyoalha's eyes.

Q: What inspires you in life?

A: Connection with people, places, experiences and life. My heart sings the loudest when I am discovering and exploring something that takes me out of my comfort zone and introduces me to being better. I love being challenged and learning. Mainly from dynamic life experiences and the cool, diverse people that I meet.

Q: Your greatest passion?
A: Love. I am passionate about being a loving person and being loved. It's a beautiful thing and everyone has access to it. And the more you do it the better you feel and the better you make others feel. It's pretty simple and it all starts with connection.

Q: Your driving force?
A:
Good question. I suppose I'm most driven by my hearts continued hunger for new life experiences. I could stay up all day and night for days if I'm doing something new that I know one day, years from now, I will look back at with a smile and be like, "now that was a good time!" So I must be driven by my desire to create great memories that will keep me entertained when I'm rocking in my chair on the front porch.

Q: Philosophy?
A:
Be a good person. Life doesn't have to be as complicated as we make it. If you're good, you will receive good. And if you don't, you are doing something wrong. Challenges and heartaches come to all of us, and it's up to us to be the best we possibly can in the moment that we are in. And there's goodness in that too - if we choose to see it.

Q: Anything in the world?
A:
I'd love to create a positive movement of great people that are driven to explore themselves and spread their unique charm. I am working towards this goal with YUOLOGY and my dream is to see as many people as I can light up when they truly understand what they are capable of - and they start doing it!

YUOLOGY could grow in many directions with different platforms, and my mind explodes with ideas. At this point, I am building the foundation and with enough passion and drive I could be in India one day speaking with ladies about their dreams. And maybe on Oprah's couch chatting about life. Haha, now that's really dreaming.

Q. Working on?
A:
YUOLOGY holds ongoing events called YuLounges where people come to connect with themselves, new people and to be inspired. The evenings are super positive and I have never seen anyone leave with less excitement about their life than they had when they arrived.

Everyone is welcome to attend (first timers too) and we encourage the concept to be a way of taking time out for YOU to create the story of you. And to have some fun while you're at it!
