On Monday January 26, 2015, himaya was featured on LBC in the evening show “7ki Jelis” presented by Joe Maalouf. In the light of a recent video found of a father abusing his two young boys, insulting them, screaming at them, hitting them, strangling them, and forcing them to hit one another, it was essential for himaya to show our implication in any incident concerning our cause.

himaya received more than 47 hotline phone calls immediately after the show was aired not only to report cases of child abuse all around Lebanon but many viewers also expressed their care and support for the young children portrayed in the video.

We would like to thank “7ki Jelis” and LBCI for giving this harsh reality the importance it deserves and contributing to putting an end to injustice and violence against children!

A SHORT STORY ABOUT THE LIFE OF A SURVIVOR!
The Story of Fouad

Fouad a little child age 8 was physically abused inside his own school.

The case was reported on local television accusing Fouad’s teacher of being the abuser.

himaya immediately intervened to protect the child and start the necessary procedures. It began with a medical examination that helped himaya figure out which tools were used to cause the scars and bruises while building sufficient proof to incriminate the abuser.  A meeting was then appointed with Fouad’s school to start the prevention and awareness trainings with all parents, educators and children of the establishment

Sadly Fouad’s parents were afraid of the consequences it could implicate and chose not to report the case legally to the authorities. Instead, Fouad was transferred to another school and the teacher was not put away.

Fouad’s progress is a success and his parents are becoming more aware of the help they need to provide the appropriate support he needs. Our psychosocial team is making sure Fouad adapts to all the changes going on around him while trying to work on the trauma he has experienced.

Stories like these makes us better understand the importance of reporting abuse when it happens, and breaking the silence.

How will it all stop if we do not speak out?

After months of collaboration and hard work himaya launched the “Strengthening Resilience Among Vulnerable Children” project funded by UNICEF. The project aims to protect vulnerable boys and girls from violence, exploitation, abuse and neglect through equitable access to quality child protection services. The target beneficiaries are Syrian refugees in Lebanon alongside the host communities present in Lebanon. The project will include all of himaya’s activities from the resilience and training programs and will be implemented in the regions of Beirut, Mt. Lebanon, Bekaa, Akkar and North Lebanon
